"All right, let's go!" Nezuko exclaimed and stepped out of the gates. She turned around to the old lady. "Thank you for everything!" she thanked and bowed deeply. Zenitsu and the old lady joined her.
"Sparks for good luck..." the old lady murmured and struck the flint and steel.
"Thank you!" Nezuko beamed.
"What are you doing, hag?!" Inosuke barked. Nezuko help him back before he could attack.
"Are you stupid?! It's a ritual! It's purification because we're going into danger!" Zenitsu explained angrily, shielding himself behind the old lady.
"At all times, please live with high pride. I wish you good fortune in war!" the old lady prayed.
"Heads held high? Luck for our upcoming battles? What does that mean?" Inosuke asked when the group started running.
"Actually, now that I think about it" Nezuko piped up. "It seems like a pretty difficult thing to achieve. Living with our heads held high... It means we should truly try to understand our current standing, and upon this standing, we must devise and follow the correct course of action without any fear of shame an embarrassment... I think. This is the old lady's way of praying for our safety"
"What's a standing?" Inosuke continued his pestering. "What do you mean without any shame?"
"Thats-"
"What is the correct course of action specifically? Why is the old hag praying for our safety?" the boar proceeded. "For the old hag to do that even though she has nothing to do with us... it seems like the old hag is the one that doesn't understand her own standing"
Nezuko offendedly puffed up her cheeks and sped up, leaving her 2 friends behind.
"Ah! She's speeding up!" Zenitsu whined.
After hours of travelling they finally arrived. "Wait! Can you please wait?!" Zenitsu stopped them and stood in the middle of the road. "It's so scary!" he whimpered and crouched down. "It feels so much scarier the closer we get to our destination!"
"Why is this guy sitting down?" Inosuke growled. "He's pissing me off!"
"You're the only one I don't want complaints from, pig-head!" Zenitsu barked. "Seems like you don't really piss me off after all, but that's normal! I'm normal! You're abnormal!!"
Nezuko turned around to the gasping noise behind her. "Save-" a boy wheezed out. "Save... me..."
"He's wearing the uniform!" Nezuko exclaimed and ran to him. "Something has happened to a member of the demon slayer corps! Are you alright? What happened?!"
Before he could answer, the guy was pulled back harshly. "Ah!" he screamed. "I was tied too! Save me!!" and with that, he disappeared into the trees.
Zenitsu had his mouth covered in shock.
Nezuko swallowed her fear and frowned. "Let's go save him" she said quietly, but determinedly.
"I shall be the vanguard!" Inosuke cackled. "You can just bring your trembling butts and follow me! I'm hungry!!" he announced and grabbed the hilts of his katanas.
"Inosuke..." Nezuko trailed off and ran after him.
"They're just waiting for a chance to go all out..." Zenitsu mumbled.
In the forest things were cold, gross and creepy. Spider webs slung across branches and birds screamed ominously in the distance.
"Bah! There are spider webs everywhere! So annoying!!" Inosuke spat and waved his arms around.
"Right..." Nezuko mumbled, barely paying attention. "Inosuke-"
"What?!"
"Thank you" she thanked with a smile. "You coming along really brings me a lot of confidence... The mountain trail... looks twisted and unnatural. It's making my body go into shock. Thank you"
Inosuke ogled at her with his big, creepy boar eyes. He looked deep in thought. Well, in all fairness, it's Inosuke, he can only think so much.
"Inosuke!" Nezuko hissed and pointed in front of her at a boy sitting on the ground, crumpled up in a ball. She gently raised her hand so that is remained rested next to his face to avoid startling him. He jumped a bit and turned around, grabbing his katana. "I'm here for support. Kamado Nezuko, rank Mizunoto" the girl informed.
"Mizunoto... Mizunoto?!" the guy asked in disbelief. "Why didn't they send a Hashira?! It'll be the same, no matter how many Mizunoto come! It's pointless!"
Inosuke suddenly slammed his fist into the guys face. "Inosuke!!" Nezuko exclaimed in shock and grabbed the fabric from his trousers.
"So annoying!" the boar growled. "If you keep insisting that things are useless, then allow me to bring up your very existence! Hurry up and explain, coward!" he yelled and grabbed the guys hair.
"After- after receiving our commands... from the crow... 10 members got here! However... after entering the woods... the demon slayers started to... kill each other!"
In the distance, a body rose, grasping a sword. The body went at Inosuke, swinging the sword. The boy narrowly dodged it.
"These people are idiots!" Inosuke hollered. "Don't they know it is forbidden for members to kill each other?!"
Nezuko tried her best to defend herself. "No! Their movements are strange, I think they're being controlled by something!"she theorised.
"Alright! Then I'll chop them in half!" Inosuke announced proudly.
"You can't!" Nezuko stopped him. "They are still alive! There are still living people mixed among them! And you mustn't harm our companions' corpses!" she insisted and defended herself against her coworkers.
"Stop denying my fun!" Inosuke screamed and head butted Nezuko in the stomach. She exclaimed in pain.
Nezuko spotted a glimpse of what looked like wires controlling one of the soldiers. She swung her sword and her suspicions were confirmed: the soldier fell to the ground. "It's wires! They're being controlled by wires! Cut the wires!!" she announced.
"I already figured that out!" Inosuke declared and boldly leapt up, cutting a bunch of wires.
Nezuko twirled around, trying to detect who, or... what was controlling them. Her eyes caught spiders that were crawling on her arm. She couldn't react in time, and the spiders wrapped webs around her forearm and forced it up. She reacted in time to cut the wires. Behind her, the bodies slowly rose. They looked like mangled, twisted puppets.
"Cutting the wires won't work! The spiders will still reattach the wires upon them!" Nezuko announced.
"Then we kill all of these spiders!"
"No! They're too small and there's too many! We must find the demon controlling them! Inosuke!! If you can locate the demon with precision please do!" Nezuko pleaded. "And you, uh..."
"Murata!" the soldier finally introduced himself.
"Murata-san!" Nezuko confirmed. "Murata-san and I will deal with the ones being controlled! Inosuke will-" she suddenly looked up and saw a child wearing a spider-patterned yukata standing on wires.
"Don't disturb our clans peaceful life here" he murmured, barely audibly enough for Nezuko to hear.
