"I am learning!" Nezuko defended herself. "I'm learning everyday! I do the best I can! But right now I don't know what to do... I can't move forward!"

"Move forward!" the boy demanded. "If you're a demon slayer, if you're truly a demon slayer, you would keep going! You have no choice but to move forward! Now bring it on! Let me witness your power!"

Nezuko let our a battle cry, but she was harshly stopped when the boy used his wooden sword to smack her under the chin, knocking her out.

She woke up a couple minutes later to a girl, who was slightly smaller than her, standing above her.

"Are you alright?" the girl asked.

"Did you see that move?!" Nezuko exclaimed excitedly, stars in her eyes. "That was an awesome strike! No hesitation or unnecessary moves at all! Very clean! I can do it, right?"

"Of course you can!" the girl smiled. "I'll be there to witness it!"

Nezuko felt herself grow warm in the face. "Who are you?" she asked. Apparently the mystery girl called herself Makomo. The other boy was Sabito. For the next couple of months, Makomo pointed out any false moves and places in which Nezuko was lacking, though she refused answering any questions. She just answered with 'we all love urokodaki sensei'. Sabito and her aren't siblings. They're orphans adopted by urokodaki. She usually talked about something called "total concentration breathing".

"Total concentration breathing is the acceleration of the blood flow and breathing or the heart. That way the body temperature rise up. You will be able to maintain human form, but be as strong as a demon. You have to increase blood capacity and allow in the maximum amount of air that you are able to hold. When your blood quickens you're muscles go into panic mode. Your blood runs hot, then you will become strong" she explained.

Nezuko didn't understand a thing Makomo said. She rarely did. "How do I do that?" she asked, tilting her head to the side.

"I don't think there's another way other than to train" Makomo answered simply. She really was an enigma.

Months had passed, but Nezuko still couldn't beat Sabito. When she finally challenged him again, he was carrying a real sword.

"After a year you finally have the face of a solider" Sabito admitted and pulled his katana out of the sheath. It was an up-front fight- the strongest and fastest one will win. Nezuko and Sabito went at each other, but this time, Nezuko struck first. She had learned a trick: her sharp eyesight allowed her to detect the "opening thread". It connected her blade to the nearest opening, almost guaranteeing her victory. Sabito's mask cut in half and fell off his face. He looked up and smiled sadly, he almost looked relieved. The girl took in his features. He had stormy bluish purple eyes that looked naturally kind. A large scar decorated his cheek to the corner of his mouth. His choppy, salmon hair fell around his face.

"You must win, Nezuko" Makomo spoke as she got lost in the mist. "Against him too"

Nezuko blinked in confusion at what unfolded in front of her. She looked at where Sabito once was and saw that where he once was stood the boulder, split in half down the middle.

"The reason I didn't want you to go to final selection was because i didn't want to see any of my children die anymore. I didn't count on you being able to slice that rock" Urokodaki placed a hand on Nezukos hair. "You did well, Nezuko... you are an impressive kid..." he said gently for the first time. Tears rolled down the girls face. "You must come back alive from final selection. This old man and your brothers will wait for you here"

The two went back home. Sensei gave the girl a haircut, since after a year of not being kept, her hair evolved to a birds nest. He also gave her a mask: a pure white one with circles on the corners of its mouth and a bow on the top of the forehead. He called it a warding mask. Nezuko sadly looked over at Tanjiro, who was sleeping peacefully on a futon that Urokodaki had laid out. She placed a hand on his forehead and sighed, happy to see that he was still alive and well. Y/n noticed his sisters despair and put his hands on her shoulders. She turned to him and they made eye contact. He slowly leaned forward and closed his eyes, connecting his forehead with hers. She blinked in surprise, but didn't dare to move as a feeling of tranquility and relaxation washed over her. It was as if Y/n was eating her bad thoughts. After a couple of minutes of them sitting like that, he stood up and moved to Urokodaki. He moved his mask slightly and connected their foreheads. The old man could feel his worries melt away. A couple more minutes passed and the demon boy skipped away, happily opening a small leather notebook out of his kimono and making some markings in it with a brush and some ink.
