The Days of our Lives

Chapter 1

Lily

I wake up to an annoying buzzing sound. I was about to smash the alarm clock when I noticed the date. It's 1st September. I am supposed to start my last year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and to add to the excitement I am made the Head Girl this year. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the letter, which arrived last week. I am excited to meet the new Head Boy. I hope it is Remus. As I was processing my thoughts, I hurriedly push the toast down my throat and rushed to the front yard where my dad was loading my trunk into the car. 

As we reached King's Cross, my excitement tripled. I hurriedly hugged mum and Dad and rushed into the wall. The bustling whistle and smoke of Hogwarts Express ran a feeling of familiarness down my spine. I loved it. I hear someone shout my name. Its Marlene and Alice, who were rushing towards me.

 I met them on the train back in the first year and we have been inseparable ever since. As I make my way towards them, I bump into a tall figure. James Potter, the arrogant bully who asked me out regularly.

 "I am so sorry, Evans. I didn't see you there." He says with a genuine smile which really surprised me as he would always flash an annoying cocky grin."It is alright, Potter." "See you later, Evans," he rushes out before I could say anything else and leaves. That was odd. He usually found moments to boast about himself but wait.....why do I miss that. I must have gone mad. 

That was when I was pulled out of my mind palace to find Marlene and Alice smirking at me. "What? " "Lily Evans was just having a civil conversation with James Potter and you ask us what happened? Whatever." Marlene sarcastically replied with Alice agreeing upon everything she said. " He bumped into me and apologised, that's all," I replied with a truthful look on my face which was met with a set of rolling eyes. 

We hopped onto the train and proceeded towards our compartment which had been ours since first year. But all I could think about was James' changed behaviour. But why? I hate James Potter. This is the first time James hogged my thoughts. " You do not hate him," a voice spoke up. Shut up! I saw my friends staring at me with puzzled looks. "Are you alright, Lily? You seem tensed and odd." Alice asked. " Ya, I am fine. Just gathering thoughts." As we sat down, I suddenly remembered I had to be at the prefect compartment. " I will see you guys later, I should be at the prefect compartment. I should not be late on my first day as head girl." "You are the head girl?" Marlene and Alice sang in sync. " We knew you would get it and make sure you tell us who the Head Boy is?" Alice added." Of course, see you lot later." 

I hurried towards the compartment, my heart filled with excitement and worry. What if it was somebody who I could not stand? Then fear crept in. What if it was Severus? He was my best friend since before I started Hogwarts. He was the one who introduced me to the magical world but he changed. After we were sorted into separate houses, he started to hang out with dark Slytherins, who wanted to be death eaters after graduation. I made a lot of excuses for him when we were younger when my friends asked me why I still hanged out with him. But after he called me a mudblood in front of the entire school, I was done making excuses for him. I was hurt. My best friend, whom I trusted, deceived me. Playing back this incident never failed to bring me to the verge of tears.   I did not notice opening the compartment. A certain messy raven hair brought me back to reality.

 "Potter?" I shouted without thinking then realising what I had done, added, "what are you doing here?" a little less harsh than before. " You do not know?" he asked. "Know what?" " Well, I am supposed to be here. I am the Head Boy." James replied. 
James arrogant toerag Potter, the Head Boy. Has Dumbledore lost his mind. "You are Head Boy?" " I couldn't believe it at the beginning when I got the letter. At first, I thought it was a prank or something, but I had a letter addressed to me from Dumbledore, himself. I really do not know how it happened." He explained. I really did not know what to say. 

"Well, I guess, congratulations!" " Thank You! I suppose we should get started." He said. I nodded and pulled out a parchment. "We should start with the patrols." " Alright." He said with a smile. As we were working, prefects started gathering. I noticed Remus. " Hi Remus, how was your summer?" " It was fine, Lily. How was yours?" He replied with a tired smile. His scars were defined. He was a werewolf. I discovered this back in the third year but never really brought up the subject. I know it is his secret to tell and his having that problem still does not change the fact that he is my friend and a kind person." It was good." 

James hugged Remus and asked him how his furry problem was. It really indicated towards him being a werewolf but most of them thought Remus had a badly behaved rabbit. 

As more prefects started entering the compartment, I noticed a familiar face staring at me. It was Severus. I looked at him for a second before turning away. " I am Lily Evans, your Head Girl", " And I am James Potter, your Head Boy. " I started reading out the patrol duties from a list. 

After it was over, everyone nodded and left to patrol the train, which left only me, James and Remus in the compartment. " Are you staying here?" Potter asked. " No, I think I will go find Alice and Marlene" to which he replied." Evans, you know that we will have to work together for the rest of the year and it will only be fair if we forgot about the  history and started fresh, What do you say?" He stretched out his hand with his hazel eyes flickering under his glasses. " Fine, we can be friends." " Good, bye Lily." " Bye. " My name sounded sweet when he said it. This is going to be one hell of a year. With this thought bouncing in my mind I left the now deserted compartment with a smile.
