Back in the common room, Fred was greeted by Harry, Hermione, and Ginny, all huddled around the fireplace. Apparently, Ron had gone off to bed.
"So, mister matchmaker, how did it go?" asked Ginny, a cheeky smile plastered onto her face.
"Took her less than fifteen minutes to tell I wasn't George. And the light was turned off too. Man that didn't go well..."
Hermione raised her eyes, meeting his: "Oh, I'm sorry, did you actually expect it to go well? Wait until George hears what you did."
Just then, thumping could be heard from upstairs, followed by a set of hurried footsteps. All of them were greeted by a fuming George, followed closely by Lee, whose nose was bleeding.
"Sorry guys, he broke down the door the moment he heard Freds voice. Took me down right after." said Lee while holding his nose, sounding as if he inhaled helium.
"Fred what did you do?!" demanded George, holding Fred by the collar of his shirt.
"Gred, mate, listen, I-"
"FRED WHAT DID YOU DO!?"
"Alright, alright, I snuck into Y/n's dormitory and pretended to be you!"
"YOU DID WHAT?!"
"Mate, listen she figured it was me so you shouldn't worry about a thing, honestly mate it's all just f-"
Fred was soon enough cut off by George's fist meeting his nose, resulting in a somewhat satisfying crack.
"COME ON GRED, NOT THE FACE!"
"Oh, I'm sorry, Forge, would you rather it be your balls?"
"No..."
The bystanders didn't even get to utter a word as George broke into a run out of the common room. It didn't matter to him how loud his footsteps echoed in the dead silent castle, he just kept on running straight to the Ravenclaw tower. He didn't bother to use a secret passage, he just went to the entrance and yelled the answer to the riddle asked by the doorknob without thinking twice.
George didn't even notice the deserted common room, he just sprinted up the stairs, tripping the moment he reached the 5th year dorm. He burst through the door, only to find Y/n sitting up on her bed, curtains drawn, her eyes shooting daggers at him.
"Y/n, listen, I-"
"George what the fuck? What was Fred doing here? Why do you look as if professor Lupin just chased you around the Forbidden Forrest?"
Truth was, Y/n was just pretending to be mad. Of course, she wasn't entirely ok with what Fred did, but it was something completely predictable for him.
"Y/n, I am so, so incredibly sorry! I just came back from dinner and next thing I knew, Harry and Ginny were locking me in my room, snatching my wand away! I had no idea Fred was going to do what he apparently did, please forgive me!"
"Oh, I'll forgive you...Both of you, actually, under one condition."
George sat down on the floor, near her bed, looking up at her, eyes pleading: "I'll do anything you want, just tell me what it is."
Y/n leaned closer to him, trying to suppress the smile threatening to show up on her face.
"Alright, then tell me why Fred snuck in here, pretending to be you. The real reason. No lies."
For a split second, George contemplated dashing out the door and disappearing into the night, never to be seen again. He didn't want to lie to her, but he didn't want to confess either. Their friendship was at stake if she didn't feel the same way.
"I-"
The words died down in his throat. Blushing, he held his head down, his hair covering his forehead, dangling into his eyes.
"George you can tell me anything, you know that, right?" said Y/n, putting her palm over his hands in what she hoped was some form of comfort.
Well here goes nothing. When she refuses me, I'll just jump off the Astronomy Tower or transfigure myself into a rat and go into hiding. George thought, his heart beating faster and faster. Here goes nothing.
"Fred did that because he thinks I am an idiot for not confessing my feelings for you. I don't know if he pretended to be me and confessed or just hung out with you, doing nothing. Y/n I don't want you to feel like you have to like me back or anything! I just hope that after tonight we'll still be friends... I don't want to lose you! Don't take how I feel for you into consideration. So please-"
"I have feelings for you too..."
"-when you refuse me just do it really quickly, you know... No need in making me suffer more, now is it? All I want is for you to forgive me and pretend that this conversation never took place. I know I don't stand a chance, not when you have Diggory drooling after you/ I'm an honest man, you know, I don't lie to myself, I know you don't-"
"GEORGE, I HAVE FELINGS FOR YOU TOO!"
Y/n was smiling broadly, a blush dusting her face as she looked down at George lovingly. Speaking of George, his eyes were unblinking, mouth wide open, staring at her in complete shock.
"You...you what?'
"Yes George, I do have feelings for you!" laughed Y/n, holding his hands just a bit tighter.
"Please Y/n, don't lie to me! It's not funny, please!"
George's eyes were becoming glossy and refusing to meet hers. Merlin he is so oblivious thought Y/n as she bent over to his level and kissing him gently, her lips barely touching his, afraid he might get too overwhelmed.
She broke away, red-faced and smiling. George was sporting a rather bright blush as well, his devastated look now replaced by a goofy grin. When his brain returned to his head, he lost no time in pouncing upon Y/n, knocking her back on the bed and kissing her senseless. He made sure to pour all his feelings into that kiss, cradling her face while trying to not crush her under his weight. He made sure to show her just how deep his love for her was and he made sure that she knew just how much he cared about her.
When he broke the kiss, her eyes were glazed, lips parted and swollen.
"Can I ask you something?"
"Anything." she breathed out.
"How did you know it was Fred and not me? He said something about the room being dark when he came in."
Y/n laughed, touching his cheek with the back of her hand.
"That's easy, actually. First off, he didn't knock when he came in. You always knock. Then, he collapsed into bed, on top of me. Not only do you never do that, but you always ask if it's ok for you to cuddle me or just lay down next to me. I asked him how his day was, but he gave a short reply and then told me good night, without asking me how I am... You never do that. But I still felt that I needed more, let's say, clues, so I held his hand and found his ring. Your ring is smaller than his ,you know, not as bulky. The moment I felt his ring, I was completely sure it was Fred."
George stared at her with what could only be described as love. Then, he got under the blankets and showered her face with kisses for the remainder of the night.
