Chapter 23: Sense and Revelation

The scent of pine and damp earth filled the air as Taehyung and Jungkook strolled through the forest, the afternoon sun dappling through the leaves. The tension that had hung heavy between them in the wake of Jihwa's outburst had dissipated, replaced by a comfortable silence.

“She's obsessed,” Jungkook said, his voice low, a hint of amusement in his tone. “She's been chasing me for years, convinced we're meant to be.”

Taehyung nodded, a flicker of concern crossing his face. “I've never seen anyone so fixated on another person. Well, except of you.”

“It's unsettling,” Jungkook admitted, his hand tightening around Taehyung's. “I've tried to be clear with her, but she refuses to accept it.”

“She's dangerous,” Taehyung whispered, his voice barely audible. “She's willing to do anything to get what she wants.”

Jungkook's expression turned serious. “I know,” he said, his gaze meeting Taehyung's. “That's why we need to be careful.”

He pulled Taehyung closer, his arm around the omega's waist. “I'm not going to let anything happen to you,” he said, his voice firm, his eyes filled with a fierce protectiveness. “I'll protect you and our baby. I promised that.”

Taehyung leaned into Jungkook's embrace, a sense of security washing over him. He knew Jungkook was right. Jihwa was dangerous, and her obsession was a threat to them both.

Later that evening, as they sat by the fire, sharing stories and laughter, a sense of unease settled over Taehyung.  He couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong, that they were being watched.

“Jungkook,” he said, his voice hesitant. “Do you feel that too?”

Jungkook's gaze sharpened, his senses alert. “Feel what?” he asked, his voice low. It seemed like his Alpha instinct could feel it.

“Like we're being watched,” Taehyung said, his eyes searching the shadows.  “Like someone's out there, lurking in the darkness.”

Jungkook frowned, his gaze sweeping across the clearing. “I don't sense anything,” he said, his voice laced with a hint of doubt. “But it's always best to be cautious.”

He stood up, his hand reaching for the hilt of his sword. “Let's go inside,” he said, his voice firm. “It's getting late.”

As they entered the Alpha's mansion, a sense of relief washed over Taehyung.  He had been right to be uneasy.  There was a presence out there, a lurking shadow that felt both familiar and unsettling.

The next morning, as they prepared to leave for the city, a message arrived, delivered by a messenger from the Alpha pack. It was a simple note, containing only a single sentence: “Beware the wolf in sheep's clothing.”

Taehyung's heart pounded in his chest.  He doesn't know who the message was referring to. But what did it mean?  What was this anonymous planning?

The dimly lit tavern buzzed with the murmur of hushed conversations and the clinking of tankards. Jihwa sat across from Dongshik, her face illuminated by the flickering candlelight, her eyes gleaming with a dangerous intensity.

“You’re sure about this?” Dongshik asked, his voice laced with skepticism.
He had known Jihwa for years, back when she was still a respected member of the Alpha pack. But she had betrayed them, leaving to join the ranks of the rebels. He couldn’t believe she was now offering him information about her former pack.

“I’m sure,” Jihwa said, her voice low and unwavering. “Jungkook is hiding something. He’s found his mate, but he’s keeping it a secret.”

Dongshik scoffed. “That’s ridiculous.  Jungkook has been adamant about being mateless. He’s even poured his affections on you, remember?”

Jihwa’s lips curled into a cruel smile. “That’s precisely why he’s keeping it a secret. He’s afraid of what will happen if his mate is revealed. He’s afraid of losing everything.”

“What makes you think you’re right?” Dongshik pressed, his gaze fixed on her.  “Why should I believe you?”

“Because I’m telling the truth,” Jihwa said, her voice rising in a crescendo of frustration. “I’ve seen it with my own eyes. I’ve seen the way he looks at him, the way he touches him. It’s undeniable.”

Dongshik leaned back in his chair, his eyes narrowed. He could sense the truth in her voice, the desperation in her tone. He had always known Jihwa to be ambitious, driven by a fierce desire for power. But this was different. He could see the raw, unfiltered emotion in her eyes, the burning need to have Jungkook.

“Alright,” Dongshik conceded, a flicker of intrigue in his eyes. “Tell me more.  What’s your plan?”

Jihwa leaned closer, her voice a conspiratorial whisper. “We need to strike when they’re vulnerable. When the moon is red, we will attack.  I will send you a signal, and then we will move.”

“And what about this mate of his? What are we going to do with him?” Dongshik asked, his voice tinged with a hint of cruelty.

She hasn't tell yet the identity of Jungkook's mate because she believed it was nothing important; after all, Taehyung is just an “omega,” and she thought they were useless and whore who would spread their legs to everyone once they were in their heat. She believed that they were a disgusting species and deserved to be executed in the most painful way.

“He’s nothing but a pawn,” Jihwa said, her lips twisting into a cruel smile. “He’s the key to getting Jungkook. Once we have him, Jungkook will be ours.”

Dongshik nodded, a chilling smile spreading across his face. He had always enjoyed a good challenge, a good conquest. And this, this was an opportunity he couldn’t pass up. He would help Jihwa get Jungkook, even if it meant destroying everything. He would do everything to show that he was the most powerful person ever and not who was just born to be in a higher rank.

“The moon will be red soon,” Dongshik said, his voice a low growl. “And when it is, we will strike. We will claim what is rightfully ours.”

However, it seems like everyone has forgotten that Taehyung is strong. He doesn't want to fight back when he knows it will cause chaos, but once he needs to show his real strength, he will do anything to get everyone out of his way.
