Chapter 34: Interaction and Reunion
Ji-hye walked back to the baby's room, her steps steady but her heart heavy. She had been worried about Jungkook for days now-ever since the war ended and Taehyung was rushed to the hospital. Her son had hardly rested, and even though she admired his devotion, she couldn't help but feel concerned for his well-being.
As she opened the door to the room, she froze. There, sitting on the edge of the bed, was Jungkook. Tears streamed freely down his face, his shoulders trembling as he clutched the baby close to his chest. It was a sight she never thought she'd see-the unwavering, stoic True Blood Alpha breaking down like this.
"Jungkook?" Ji-hye called out softly, her voice tinged with worry. She stepped closer, her heart aching at the sight of her son's vulnerability. "What's wrong, my dear? Are you alright? Is the baby okay?"
Jungkook looked up at her, his eyes red and glistening with tears. His lips trembled as he tried to speak, but the words wouldn't come out at first. Finally, he managed to whisper, "Taehyung... he's awake."
Ji-hye's breath caught, and she pressed a hand to her chest. Relief flooded her, and tears welled up in her eyes as she slowly sat down beside Jungkook. "He's awake?" she repeated, her voice breaking.
Jungkook nodded, his fingers brushing away the tears that refused to stop falling. "The doctor called me," he said, his voice shaking with emotion. "Jin-hyung said he's conscious now. He's going to be okay."
Ji-hye placed a hand on his shoulder, her own tears spilling over. "Oh, thank the heavens," she whispered, her voice trembling. "I've been praying for this moment." She looked at the baby, who had stopped fussing and now lay quietly against Jungkook's chest, as if sensing the weight of the moment. "Let's go see him. He'll be so happy to see you."
Jungkook hesitated, glancing down at the baby in his arms. "I..."
Ji-hye smiled softly and reached out, gently taking the baby from him. "I'll take care of the baby. You need to go to him now."
Jungkook nodded, wiping his face with the back of his hand. The small, almost childlike gesture tugged at Ji-hye's heart. "Go ahead, sweetheart. We'll follow you soon."
With a deep breath, Jungkook left the house and made his way to the hospital. His heart raced as he approached Taehyung's room. He opened the door cautiously, and his breath caught in his throat.
There Taehyung was, sitting up slightly in bed, his pale face illuminated by the soft light of the room. The doctor was speaking to him gently, and Jin stood by his side, his expression one of quiet relief.
Jungkook froze for a moment, overwhelmed by the sight of Taehyung awake and alive. Tears filled his eyes, blurring his vision as he stepped closer. His omega was perfectly fine, and he couldn't be happier about that.
"Jungkook," Jin said softly, noticing him enter. "The doctor's just finishing up. Everything's fine now."
The doctor turned to Jungkook with a reassuring smile. "He's stable and recovering well. Nothing to worry about." After a brief nod to Jin, the doctor excused himself, leaving the room.
Jungkook didn't waste a second. He rushed to Taehyung's side, dropping to his knees beside the bed. His hands trembled as he cupped Taehyung's cheeks, his thumb brushing over the Omega's soft skin.
"Taehyung," Jungkook whispered, his voice thick with emotion. "Are you alright? Do you feel any pain?"
Taehyung's lips curved into a small, tired smile. "I'm okay," he murmured, his voice weak but steady. "Don't look so worried, Alpha." he softly chuckled.
"I couldn't help it," Jungkook admitted, tears spilling over. "You were unconscious for so long... I thought... I thought I might lose you."
Taehyung's smile faltered, guilt flickering in his eyes. "I'm sorry," he whispered. "I didn't mean to scare you. Or anyone."
Jungkook shook his head, his grip on Taehyung tightening as if to reassure himself that he was truly there. "Don't apologize. Just promise me you'll never leave me like that again." he uttered. "I love you so much, pup."
"I promise," Taehyung said softly. He glanced around the room. "The baby... where's the baby?"
At that moment, Ji-hye stepped into the room with the baby in her arms. She smiled warmly at Taehyung. "Someone's been missing you," she said, walking over to the bed.
Taehyung's eyes filled with tears as Ji-hye handed the baby to Jungkook, who carefully placed the infant in Taehyung's arms. Taehyung cradled the baby close, his tears falling as he brushed his nose gently against the baby's tiny face.
"I missed you so much," he whispered, his voice breaking. The baby giggled softly, a sound that melted Taehyung's heart. He kissed the baby's forehead, his tears soaking into the baby's soft hair.
"He missed you too," Jungkook said, sitting beside them. "He was so worried about you, Pup."
Taehyung looked up at him, his gaze filled with love and determination. "I'm sorry for making him worry. I'll never let that happen again."
Jungkook reached out, brushing a tear from Taehyung's cheek. "It's okay. From now on, we'll take care of him together. No more going through this alone."
Taehyung nodded, his resolve firm. "Together," he said softly.
Jungkook leaned in, pressing a kiss to Taehyung's forehead and then his lips, a gesture full of love and promise. The baby giggled again, and they both laughed softly, their hearts lighter than they'd been in days.
As they sat there, the three of them together, the weight of their fears and worries seemed to lift, replaced by a profound sense of hope and unity. For the first time in what felt like an eternity, everything felt right. They felt like they were a perfect family, Jungkook cooked, thinking of Taehyung, and their baby's interaction. He promised himself that he would do anything to protect his family no matter what happened
