chapter five.
Weeks went by, and soon enough it was the first week of December.
The arguing between Chris and Melissa didn't stop, but turned more into civilized discussions every night.
Usually when things happen with Lola, like when she missed her period last month, she would tell her mom and they would figure out what to do together.
But, her parents have been so consumed with this issue of the triplets' biological father, that Lola hasn't wanted to bother them with this idea that maybe something could be up with her.
As Lola headed down the stairs to go get breakfast on Wednesday morning, she was stopped by her mom.
"Hey, Lola!" Melissa called from her place at the top of the stairs.
Lola turned, holding onto the rail of the stairs. "Yeah?"
"I was just wondering if you and your brothers could do the grocery shopping run today for me?" Melissa asked. "I just wanted some time with Isla and Violet for a while."
Lola wondered why in the world her mom wanted to spend time with her half-sisters. "Sure. I'll let them know."
"Great. Thanks, honey," said Melissa. She turned and disappeared back into her and Chris's bedroom.
Micah was already dressed and playing with Chris in the living room when Lola got to the bottom of the stairs. "Hey, buddy," said Lola. "You want to go to the store with Luka, Levi and I?"
Micah looked up excitedly. "Really?"
"Yeah," Lola said.
"Yay!" Micah jumped up and down.
Lola wondered why he was so excited. She sat next to her dad and whispered so Micah couldn't hear, "he's been feeling better?"
"Yeah," said Chris. "After that day you spent with him, he's seemed more like his usual self."
"That's good."
Chris looked at Lola. "Hey, I just wanted to talk to you and apologize for the arguing and talking that's been happening for a while now. You haven't talked to me or your mom about you and what's going on in your life recently, and I just wanted to make sure you still felt comfortable doing that."
Lola thought about missing her period and how she would've talked to her mom about it if it was any other time but this. "Sorry I haven't been talking with you guys, it's just that, there's the whole thing with our bio father and I just don't want to get in the middle of it. I don't want to add to the existing problems."
Chris nodded. "I understand."
Lola left to get some quick breakfast, then headed back up the stairs to tell Luka and Levi that they were going to the store with Micah soon.
Lola knocked on Luka and Levi's door. She swore they were always hiding out in their room, playing video games (Levi) or reading (Luka).
"Yep!" Levi's voice yelled.
Lola opened the door and stepped inside their dark room. "Mom wanted us to go to the store because she wants to spend some time with Isla and Violet," she told them.
Luka looked up from his book. "Why does she want to spend time with them?"
Levi paused his video game. "Probably to talk to them and tell them that we are actually related to them."
Lola's eyes widened. "They've told you guys you're not their siblings too?"
"Uh, yeah," said Luka. "They told you too?"
