~(Y/N) POV~
"(Y/n)!" Maxx yells from my bedroom doorway.
"Leave me alone, Maxx. I'm too busy feeling sorry for myself to talk right now." I groan and pull the silk covers over my head.
"Mother sent me. You've got to get ready. We're leaving for the Greengrass's house in ten." He sighs sympathetically.
Another important meeting. Of course, we as Wolfwoods, have to attend. Maybe it won't be so bad. Maxx always lightens the mood. And I'd get to leave this dreadful mansion for a few hours.
I wouldn't describe the Wolfwood residence as pleasant.
I throw my legs over the bed and glance in his direction.
"Anything important I need to know about this one?" I rub my temples.
"Nope. Same old, same old." Maxx sits down beside me. "Wear that pink dress. The one I got you for your birthday last week."
"Perfect!" I smile and rush towards my closet.
I find the dress and go into my bathroom to change. I quickly fix up my hair. I exit the bathroom and find Maxx standing next to my nightstand. He's holding the framed picture of me ballroom dancing. I was only about five in that. Now, I'm 10. I'll be attending Hogwarts next year.
He sets it back down and nods his head to the door.
"Let's go, dummy." He chuckles.
We get to father's study and give mother a forced smile.
"Maxx. If I sense any bad behavior whatsoever-" My mother starts.
"You don't have to worry about me." Maxx cuts her off.
She huffs irritably and moves on.
"You may want to keep your eye on him, mother. Remember when he hexed poor Mrs. Bulstrode's daughter?" Elijah's voice drips with venom.
Jasmine giggles.
"She tried to curse (Y/n)." Maxx growls.
"She deserved it." I mutter under my breath.
"We must be on our way." Father holds out his arm so we can apparate and avoid an argument.
The evening is going smoothly. We've gotten through the first course rather civilized. Which is great, considering Maxx's unpredictable nature. Our parents seem pleased.
When dinner is over, My mother splits off with Mrs. Greengrass to the parlor for tea, and my father splits off to Mr. Greengrass's office for cigars and a drink. That leaves us, the children, in the dining room. We are forced to converse with Astoria and Daphne.
One thing led to another, and we were already all fighting.
"I still don't understand why you think purebloods are more powerful than muggle-borns." Maxx scoffs at Daphne and Astoria.
"Grow a brain, Wolfwood!" Daphne says angrily.
"Let's not fight!" I try and defuse the tension. I know how much trouble Maxx can get himself into.
"What are you gonna do? Tell your parents?" Daphne cackles.
"I can handle this myself." Maxx's eyes don't leave the two sisters.
Elijah and Jasmine just sit back and watch.
"You're going to get yourself hurt." Astoria threatens.
Daphnie, the older sibling, pulls out her wand. Astoria's too young to have one yet.
"You're a filthy blood traitor." Daphne snickers at Maxx.
"You're an uneducated git." Maxx insults.
"Expelliarmus!" Daphne casts.
Maxx jumps quickly out of the way.
"Stop it!" I demand.
"Incarcerous!" Maxx fires back.
Thick ropes tangle themselves around Daphne. She and Astoria shriek loudly.
Our parents barge into the room with heaving chests.
"Daphne!" Mrs. Greengrass shouts.
"Maxx? (Y/n)?" Our mother questions loudly. She twitches with anger.
"It wasn't (Y/n)!" Maxx says immediately.
"It was both of them!" Cries Daphnie, in Mrs. Greengrass's arms.
Our parents sort out the ordeal, and we apparate back to Wolfwood mansion.
"Elijah, Jasmine. Go to your rooms." My mother orders.
They scurry off quickly. My father follows suit, retreating into his study.
My mother inhales a quick breath and pulls her wand out from her black robe.
"Crucio!" She aims at me.
I jump away, almost knocking Maxx over in the process.
"Don't touch her!" Maxx bellows.
"Crucio!" She hits him with the curse instead.
"MAXX!" I scream.
He collapses instantly and yelps. He grabs his head and shakes violently.
"MOTHER NO!" I lunge forward.
She stops the spell on Maxx and points her wand at me.
"Please stop, mother!" Maxx begs. "It wasn't her!"
She completely ignores him.
"Crucio!" She waves her wand at me.
The spell collides with my chest and knocks me to the ground. I let out a scream, louder than I ever thought was possible. It felt like every single bone in my body was being snapped. My skin was on fire, and I lost all sense of time. I claw at my arms, hard enough to draw blood. A lot of it.
Maxx's screams muffle as I drift in and out of consciousness.
I just wanted it to end. Everything.
I wanted to die.
"(Y/N)?" I feel two hands shaking my shoulders. "Wake up!"
I sit up from my bed, breathing heavily. I brush the hair away from my face and notice tears dripping off my chin. I let out a sob.
"It was only a nightmare." Draco sits up and wraps his arms back around me.
"It wasn't just a nightmare, Draco. It was a flashback of Maxx and I getting tortured. By my mother. It happened last year before he..." I trail off, wiping under my eyes.
"Disappeared?" Draco finishes my sentence for me.
"Mhm." I nod.
"Do you want to talk about it?" He asks.
"Not really." I choke. "I'm tired."
"Let's get back to bed." He pulls me back down. "Tomorrow's our last day of classes before Christmas break."
After the night we played truth or dare in my dorm, time had flown by fast. Multiple weeks, actually. And tonight, Draco convinced me to have another sleepover. Lucky he did, or I'd have to deal with this on my own.
"Sorry for waking you up." I yawn.
"It's alright." He smiles.
We both go back to sleep.
