Chapter 24: Foreshadow and Hints
Jihwa strode purposefully toward the Alpha's territory, her heart racing with a mixture of anticipation and trepidation. The air was thick with the scents of pine and earth, mingling with the faint traces of lingering construction. The Alpha’s land was changing rapidly, a testament to the new alliance between alphas and omegas. As she approached the entrance, the guards, their expressions stern and vigilant, prepared to search anyone entering the realm.
Yoongi, always the watchful eye, patrolled the area, ensuring that no guard was slacking off in their duties. As his gaze swept across the crowd, it landed on Jihwa, who was being scrutinized by the guards.
“You can go inside,” one of the guards said after a thorough search, allowing her entry.
Just as Jihwa was about to step through the threshold, Yoongi appeared before her, blocking her path. The tension in the air thickened, drawing the attention of everyone nearby.
“What?” she snapped, masking her unease with a hint of annoyance.
Alphas had an uncanny ability to sense when something was amiss, and Yoongi was no different. His piercing gaze bore into her, filled with suspicion.
“For a female Alpha, you sure don’t smell,” he remarked, his voice cool and deliberate. “As if you were trying to hide your scent,” he added, delivering each word with a chilling edge.
Jihwa understood the implication. She had masked her scent, mingling it with the subtle odor of betas, a precautionary measure since she had been in their territory. The scent of betas wasn’t strong, but it lingered long enough to confuse those with keen senses. She hadn’t had the time to remove it completely, not with rogues lurking around.
“So what if I do that? It’s not like I’m committing any crimes, right?” she shot back, a mocking tone creeping into her voice.
“Not really,” Yoongi replied, his eyes narrowing. “But you see, we’re Alphas, feared by any species, even just by the scent we carry. It doesn’t make sense for you to hide it unless you’ve been somewhere you don’t belong.” He glared at her, the warning clear.
Jihwa felt a flash of anger simmer beneath her skin. Yoongi was acting as if he had already uncovered her plans.
“My rut is coming,” she said, her voice dripping with sarcasm. “I’m sorry to tell you that mostly omegas and alphas are getting along, but I don’t want any omegas crying and begging for me. That’s going to be problematic, you know.” She smiled innocently, but the facade was thin.
“Oohh, that makes sense,” Yoongi chuckled, stepping closer. He placed a hand on her shoulder, squeezing it slightly. “─if you’re talking to stupid people. But I have to remind you, no matter what species exists, none of them would crawl to you. Your scent reeks, and it’s disgusting, just like your personality.” He smirked, a mixture of amusement and disdain etched across his face.
Jihwa jerked her shoulder away, glaring at him. “You just hate me, don’t you?” she shot back.
“I’m glad your brain is still functioning,” Yoongi said, his voice dripping with sarcasm. “But to answer your question, you’re definitely right about that. I don’t see any reason for you to come back here. It’s unnecessary for you.”
“Why would you hate me as if you would vomit just by seeing my face? I don’t think we know each other that much,” Jihwa said, a grin creeping onto her lips, masking her irritation.
“You’re the reason Jimin went rogue. Everything would be fine if you hadn’t spread nonsense,” he spat, venom lacing his words.
“Ahh, I remember now. You have feelings for my brother, don’t you?” Jihwa chuckled, her amusement palpable. “Unfortunately for you, Oppa isn’t into you. Are you that mad at me that he left this land, and you couldn’t make a mess of him?”
“Ah, that’s right, you got me there,” Yoongi laughed, but it was devoid of humor. “You see, I should have taken him before and made a mess out of him. That would have been fun, don’t you think so, sister-in-law?” he sneered, his words sharp and cutting.
“Fuck you. Why don’t you take your anger out on someone else instead? I don’t want to waste my time here with you.” She intentionally bumped her shoulder against his as she passed.
“If anything happens here, and if you’re the main culprit, trust me, I will kill you. I don’t care whether you’re Jimin’s sister or not. I’ll make sure to bury you with my own hands and torture you slowly.” His tone was a low growl, a chilling warning.
“Say whatever you want,” Jihwa rolled her eyes, stepping past him into the Alpha land.
Yoongi watched her disappear from view, a frown settling on his face. Jihwa gritted her teeth, her fists clenching at her sides.
Did that bastard already catch on to what she was up to?
There’s no way...
She was certain no one was following her. Everyone knew she had no connection with betas. So how did he act as if he knew everything? Was she that obvious?
“Shit,” she cursed under her breath, frustration bubbling over.
Tomorrow, the red moon would rise. There was nothing to worry about. Everything would go according to plan. She couldn’t back down now.
“Oh, the red moon is about to start tomorrow, isn’t it?” Taehyung’s voice broke through her thoughts as he appeared at the doorway, Mr. Joo beside him.
“That’s right, Leader Kim. Is something the matter?” Mr. Joo inquired, concern flickering in his eyes.
“Nothing, really. Just thinking about what will happen. I’m curious because alphas usually go insane during the blood moon to release their stress and act relentlessly. I wonder what Jungkook will do,” Taehyung sighed.
He didn’t want to think of Jimin, having already witnessed how his brother turned during that time, locking himself away to avoid harming anyone around him. But this would be Taehyung’s first time witnessing Jungkook. After all, the blood moon often spelled danger.
