Captain Marvel fiddled in his seat nervously. The league was just getting ready for a monthly meeting to discuss budgets, missions, trainings, new recruits, and more. Marvel was one of the original to create the league, but it had only been 3 months since then and he still felt as if he was the newbie in the room. Everyone treated him that way at least, especially wonder woman. She was always telling the Captain to act his age.
Even if it was only wonder woman who voiced her annoyance with the Captain acting rashly and immature, many members of the league felt the same as her. And Captain Marvel could tell. As much as he tried to act all grown up, it was hard considering he really was just some 12 year old kid.
Several members of the league were already seated, and within a few minutes, more had joined. At the table sat Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Cyborg, Flash, Green Lantern, Green Arrow, and Black Canary. Plus Captain Marvel of course. Other members including Aquaman and Martian Man-Hunter couldn't make it to today's meeting due to regular ol' superhero stuff.
Batman began the meeting, as always. Batman was sort of the leader behind the scenes. Superman might have dealt with the media, but Batman was the one who had final say when it really came down to it.
The meeting went smoothly, the Captain staying out of most of the conversations as usual, since he didn't know much about the politics and budget cuts of being an adult and a superhero. And at the end of the meeting, Marvel was the first of the leaguers to leave.
Unknown to him, the rest of the league stayed behind. They had one more thing to discuss; Captain Marvel himself.
Diana, aka wonder woman had asked for Batman to arrange for all of them to stay behind after Marvel had left. It was her who wanted to discuss about Marvel.
She began to speak, "as many of you know, I disprove of the captains actions and behaviour as a superhero. I believe he acts immaturely. I wonder if this league is truly a good fit for him".
"Are you saying we should kick Marvel off the team?" Asked the Flash, in a shocked tone.
Green Lantern matched the flashes tone, "C'mon! I mean, I know the guy can act a little childish at times, but he's a good guy and he means well."
Superman joined the conversation, "I have to agree with Dianna. For a man that holds so much power, he is not very responsible."
"When it comes down to it," chimed in Batman, "we have to decide if the Captain's immaturity outweighs his contribution to the league."
Cyborg shuffled in his spot. He was the only person in the room who knew why Marvel acted the way he did, but he also knew that letting that secret slip would be worse.
The league continued to bicker back and forth about the lightening clad superhero, when the zeta tube announced the Captains return. They fell silent as "Captain Marvel" rang through the room. The leaguers exchanged knowing glances, telling each other without words to not let Marvel know what they had been discussing. But when a figure stepped around the corner to the meeting area, it wasn't the Captain that stepped into the room, but a young boy. He was probably around 12 years old, dressed sort of homeless looking and had black hair.
The league paused in confusion. Them, Batman spoke up.
"How did you get in here?" Batman questioned, stepping forward and grabbing the boy by the arm, pulling him forward towards the rest of the league.
"Hey man, calm down," said the boy, "it's me, Captain Marvel!"
"What kind of nonsense are you spewing," said Wonder Woman, unsheathing her sword and pointing it towards the boy.
