Taehyung didn’t think it was possible to hate a place as much as he hated hospitals. Sure they helped humanity but he hated the atmosphere there, smelling of death, sanitary tools, and needles.
Needles. The very thought of them made Taehyung want to curl up into a ball under his covers and cry. So how did he find himself in front of his local Health Center? He was asking himself that. Seriously. Fuck you college. Why require immunizations anyways? ‘S not like I’m going to get sick or anything… Taehyung thought to himself angrily as he made his way into the double glass doors.
Breathing growing heavy through his nose, Taehyung could feel the nerves creeping up on him. He tried his very hardest to not bolt out those stupid glass doors. But he needed to take the… the shot. If he wanted to go to college, he needed to take the required injections.
“Hello, sign here please!” A lady grinned at him, passing him a clipboard with various survey questions about his recent health. Taehyung mumbled a quiet thanks and sat down, filling out the questions as he went.
Sitting down, Taehyung sat silently as he waited for his name to be called. The heavy antiseptic scent of the room did nothing to soothe his nerves. His nerves were temporarily halted when he caught sight of a mother dragging a crying boy by the hand into the room. She let go of the boy to talk to the nurse assistant.
The boy walked slowly to the empty seat next to Taehyung, sniffling to himself. Worry getting the best of him, Taehyung put his hand on the boy’s shaky, tear-stained one gently.
“Are you scared?”
The boy nodded, tears still falling. Cooing to himself, Taehyung wiped the tears off his face as he consoled the boy. “I’m guessing you need to take a shot. I do too, and I’m scared too, you know?”
The small boy gazed up at him with wide eyes, mouth slightly agape in surprise, “Hyung is scared?”
“Hyung is terrified,” Taehyung admitted with a soft smile. The nerves that once dissipated resurfaced.
“I-I’m really scared. But it’s only for one second! The pain will go away as soon as it’s over!” Of course, Taehyung left out the fact that the boy’s arm might be sore for a bit but he didn’t want to scare the poor boy further. He really wished he could believe his own sayings, but he couldn’t. It was irrational for him.
“Don’t be scared Hyung! Hyung is wayyyy stronger than Cho!” The boy gestured to himself as a show of encouragement. Taehyung beamed. He was very endeared by this small boy. He didn’t have time to respond before he heard his name being called out by the nurse who would check him.
Breathing in shakily, Taehyung quickly squeezed Cho’s hand for one last comfort, and stood to follow the nurse.
“Good luck hyung!” Cho called out before the door closed behind him.
“Who was that?” The nurse asked him as they walked down the hallway together.
“Just a cute boy I met trying to comfort me.”
“Mhm and it says here that you’re getting your immunizations for… Varicella and influenza?” The nurse asked as he took Taehyung’s weight and height. Taehyung’s breath stuttered in his throat at the mention of two injections.
“I,” Swallowing with difficulty, Taehyung tried not to think of the size of the needles going through his skin. “Yeah.” He muttered thickly.
They were both now inside the patient room. The nurse had noticed Taehyng’s nervousness with a frown. Turning to Taehyung, he gestured for him to sit on the bed. Which Taehyung nervously complied to.
