Just a quick note before we begin. I am terrible at thinking of character names so if you see one from a book/movie/show, that's why. Other names are names of characters my friends and I created. Hope you enjoy!

Lilah

The pouch of gold was dropped on the desk I sat behind, the man who had put it there watching me. I was one of Erawan's assassins, the only female he'd trained. He hadn't wanted to of course but when I'd beaten a few of his other assassins he'd agreed.
"You must really want this person dead, if you're offering that much." I mused, setting my feet up on the wooden desk and leaning back.
His voice was husky as he spoke.
"That's only half. Half now and you get the rest when the job's done."
"Hmm. Well, tell me. Who is it you want dead?" I picked up the pouch of gold and pulled a coin out, flicking it around in my fingers.
"The prince." His arms tensed for a moment as he watched me.
I didn't so much as blink in surprise, people had come to us for many different jobs. "And tell me," I swung my feet down and leaned forward, my elbows digging into the edge of the polished oak wood. "Why do you want him, taken care of?"
"What's it to you?" I didn't even flinch at the bite in his tone.
"I like to know why I'm doing jobs for people." I shrugged. "Forgive me for being curious."
"A girl shouldn't bother with curiosity." He hissed. I had the tip of my dagger poised at his throat in a heartbeat.
"And men like you shouldn't test an assassin. I may be paid for my services but I'm willing to slit your dammed throat for nothing. If you'd like to still be breathing when you leave here, I suggest you sit down." A figure silently entered the room and dipped their head to me. Sam, the only person here I'd consider a friend.
The man glared at me but sat down and I put my dagger away.
"Do you have a specific day you want this done by?" Most people gave about a week for us to finish jobs but I wanted to know-
"A month. Enough time for you to find how you'll get in and out, as well as finish the job itself." He shrugged.
My eyes flicked to Sam for a heartbeat and I watched him dip his head. Yes.
"Alright then." I nodded. "I'll talk to Erawan now, if you'll wait here."
He nodded as I stood, stepping around the desk. I knew he watched me as I moved towards the door, knew the surprise that most likely crossed his face when he saw the male by the door.
"Keep an eye on him." I murmured as I walked passed. "Don't know if I trust him entirely."
He nodded and leaned against the wall as I stepped through the door.
Erawan was waiting in the dining hall, as he always was when one of his assassins was offered a job.
"Lilah." He didn't look up at me as I entered the room. "How much did he offer you?" Even though the assassins were offered the payment, half always went to Erawan. Money for 'taking care of us' as he put it.
I tossed the pouch of gold at him. "That's half. I get the other half when the jobs done." I could hear him pour the coins out, counting.
"Must be an important target if he's offering you that much." He hmmed, putting the coins back and tucking the pouch in his pocket.
"The Prince." At those two words he seemed to start, standing quickly.
    "No."
"I'm good, one of your best. I can do this." I stood straight, though he still towered over me. "You know that I can do it!"
"You're seventeen for gods sake. I'm not sending a seventeen year old on a mission that'll only get you killed."
"If I'm caught. I'll take Sam with me. We'll watch each others back I promise. We always do." I knew that arguing wouldn't get me far but I wasn't letting this job slip through my fingers just like that.
He sighed. "Fine. Talk to Sam. If he agrees, you can take the job. If he doesn't, I don't want to hear another word about this from you. Understand?"
I nodded, trying to hide my excitement at the fact he'd agreed to it. I knew the only reason he had been reluctant was because it was me who'd been offered the job. Had it been Sam or Jack, another one of the boys, he wouldn't have cared as long as he got his payment. I managed to calm myself entirely by the time I got back to the study, where Sam was still standing in the doorway.
"He'll only let me take the job if you go with me." I murmured to the blue eyed male I called a friend.
He nodded slightly. "He knows you're capable of handling yourself but I'll go with you." He nodded, black hair brushing over his forehead.
"Thanks." I nodded and walked over to the sandy haired man that had offered me the job. "I'll take it." I nodded.
He dipped his chin. "Good. I'll be back in a month. With the rest of your payment." He turned before stopping. "One more thing. The prince wears a ring around his neck. Bring that to me as well."
I nodded to him as he walked out. The second the door clicked shut I slumped into a chair, rubbing my temples.
"I take it Erawan wasn't too keen on letting you take this one?" Sam say across from me, pulling his hood down.
I shook my head. "And his reasoning was the fact that I'm seventeen." I rolled my eyes.
"Basically all of us are seventeen or eighteen though-?"
"Yeah I know." I shrugged. "Anyway, want to start scouting tomorrow? We have time but I've been staying still for too long."
He nodded. "Yeah. But you need to sleep first. It's about eleven." He motioned to the clock which indeed read eleven o' nine.
I stood and ruffled his hair as I walked passed. "You sleep too."
He swatted at my hand and nodded, walking out of the room after me.
I walked to my room, pulling off my hooded jacket and unbraiding my blonde hair. It hung about halfway down my back and there had been multiple times I was tempted to cut it but talked myself out of it. I just changed into and oversized shirt and flopped on my bed, silently debating on whether I should read or actually try to sleep. Eventually exhaustion overwhelmed me and I fell asleep, not thinking much of what I'd begin tomorrow.
