i sit behind a tree and watched a loud group of eldians squabbling around with what looked like new gear. i squinted, trying to get a better view. there stood yelena trying to explain the new firearms to the group, a loud woman with glasses and a blonde boy trying to calm her down. i quirked my eyebrow in question, they were more .. less uptight than i thought. maybe, i was too used to how tense the military was back in marley. i'd only enjoy it when gabi, reiner and the other warriors.

though, we barely ever were in the same area together besides training. we were all stationed in different units and were rarely beside each other in the battlefield.

i looked around my surroundings, i had to be careful since we were outside the walls that protected everyone from titans.

"wahooo! this is so impressively engineered, hey tall woman–" the loud woman yelled in the air ecstatically, bombarding yelena with questions. and that had to be hange, a crazy scientist reiner explained. the others looked intrigued by marley's technology as well, it was weird seeing people so fascinated by our artillery when we've had them for a few decades.

on the ship, i had receieved a book full of all important eldian soldier profiles and information. information most likely gained from reiner. i quickly matched all the faces to the profiles i remembered in my head.

i sat there for a while, petting my horses white mane to keep my horse entertained. i was getting impatient watching them as well. i glanced at the black scarf tied to my upper thigh, then glanced at the girl with a dark maroon scarf wrapped around her neck.

"mikasa, hey, how'd you do that so well?" a bald boy exclaimed in question. my eyes widened in realization, ah, so that's mikasa?

my half sister. she looked quiet and so far she was keeping to herself, we weren't too far off personality-wise then. she was a half ackerman i heard, meaning we both had scientifically advanced blood inside of us.

they were now all equipping a different uniform, a black one. i heard yelena helped them design a new uniform suitable for the upcoming missions the anti-marley-paradis alliance had in plan.

i perked up as i realized they were on their way deeper in the forest, i gawked at how they shot and glided with their gear and clung onto trees. maybe our military was more advanced back in homeland, but paradis' engineering definitely caught anyones eye. the way they adapted to a titan filled land and created equipment like this was beyond my understanding.

we used titans back in homeland as a weapon, one of our best and unstoppable weapons at that. they were hard to control, terrifying and never failed to wipe out an area. but the way eldians on this island had made gear specifically designed to kill titans and even engineered to use the environment to their advantage, despite being very behind historically compared to marley.

i gave my horse a slight tug and followed behind them far enough for them not to see me.

"wait, somethings wrong." i heard hange halt, her voice sounded serious.

"i guess i get to see you guys in combat for the first time unexpectedly now." yelena crossed her hands, looking slightly down at everyone.

"i hear too many footsteps, there shouldn't be this many titans out here right now.." sasha spoke warily.

"yelena, stay back. a safe distance." mikasa warned.

"huh? we haven't even adapted to our new equipment and we're already on a suicide mission!" connie cried out, waving his hands like an idiot and holding his shaved head.

"i understand it isn't ideal.. but, this is a perfect time where we test our new gear in a tough situation." hange laughed a little awkwardly, trying to lighten the tense aura.

"oi– shitty sight, don't implement your reckless lifestyle to your orders." a short but deep voiced man spoke up. levi ackerman, the feared. at-least that's how reiner described him.

"no, but— hange's right, we don't have any choice but to engage in combat. the titans will catch up to us anyways and maybe catch us off guard. right now would be the best opportunity, we have the upper-hand. we can arrange a sneak attack." armin's voice sounded calm and collected despite their situation.

they all glanced at each other silently and nodded, looking forward and glided forward. i watched each of them throw themselves at the titans so determinedly and confidently, i truly admired how well they handled the situation. it looked like they've been fighting off titans for a long while, their skill proved it.

"ah shit, hange! there's more abnormals coming in for some reason." levi yelled across the forest, as he was dealing with his own area full of titans.

i observed the tense situation from a little afar, enough to not be spotted by titans but also, close enough view perfectly what was happening.

i heard sasha scream in panic, "agh! i can't control this area, theres too many abnormals coming at me, hey.. what the shit– my ODM gear is malfunctioning, come on!" she yelled in frustration, clearly struggling.

"sasha!" the bald exclaimed, shooting his gear towards her way hurriedly. "connie- oi, don't break formation– fucking hell!" levi jerked his head towards them fast, sighing and wiping the blood off of his face with his wrist.

i watched as the sasha girl slip and fall off of the tree her gear gripped, "sasha! connie, don't go in without back-up, it's too crowded in her area." mikasa looked behind her, watching the catastrophe unfold.

this is my turn, i assume. i sighed looking down at my hand as i jumped off my horse, running towards the area as i flicked the ring on my finger, revealing a small sharp blade compartment. when i finally ran forward enough to get a safe distance away from my horse, "well, here goes nothing.." i mumbled to myself, flicking my thumb on the blade.
