Part One: The Lightning Thief
"Clio?"
I turn around to face Kayla, who's waiting in the doorway of Cabin Seven. "Yeah?"
"Chiron wants to see all the counselors," she says, twirling a piece of strawberry blonde hair around her finger. "I'm supposed to make sure you get up to the Big House."
"But I'm not the Cabin Seven counselor. That's Michael."
"Yeah, but he's not here right now. He's out in the fields. He has you listed as his backup."
"Oh. Um, okay." I didn't know I was Michael Yew's lieutenant counselor, but I guess that makes sense. I am the next oldest.
I begin my trek up to the Big House. Chiron doesn't usually summon all the head counselors at once, so something pretty big must be happening.
When I arrive, I sit down at the Cabin Seven table, Apollo's. I take quick inventory of the rest of the tables in the hall to see which counselors have arrived.
Table one is empty, like always. Zeus only had one demigod child (well, recently at least), and she... well, she stands tall, protecting the camp.
Thalia, defender of us all.
Table two is empty too. It's honorary- Hera is the goddess of marriage, she doesn't run around having affairs.
Table three is the last empty table. Poseidon didn't have any demigod children after the pact of the Big Three. He kept his word, unlike Zeus.
It's summer, so Katie Gardner sits at table four. Her twin sister, Miranda, runs the Demeter cabin the rest of the year.
Clarisse La Rue is scowling at cabin five, but she's usually scowling. She definitely got Ares' temper.
I don't know where Annabeth is, because Malcom Pace is sitting at the Athena table instead.
There are no Hunters of Artemis at camp right now, so table eight is empty.
Charles Beckendorf sits at the Hephaestus table, rolling his eyes at something Silena Beauregard, the counselor for Aphrodite, just said.
Luke is gone too, I assume, because my best friends Travis and Connor Stoll are messing around at the Hermes table.
Dionysus only had two demigod children, and they were with the same mortal, so his table isn't usually too occupied anyway. But currently, it's empty. Castor must still be on his way.
And finally, the eternally empty table of cabin thirteen, Hades. I'm not sure he could have an affair if he tried, but he's so in love with Persephone that it doesn't matter anyway.
Castor shows up a few minutes later, closely followed by Chiron. His ancient face is lined with worry and confusion, and I squirm anxiously.
"Children," he begins with a smile. "I'm sorry to call you all here, away from your normal activities. However, a new camper arrived today."
We all glance at each other, confused. A new camper? Sure, it doesn't happen every day, but it's hardly cause for a huge meeting.
"Um, Chiron?" Travis asks. "Is that why you called us here? To tell us there's a new camper?"
"Do they have, like, a super important godly parent?" Connor tries.
"He is so far unclaimed." Chiron responds.
So, he called us here for another unclaimed camper? This isn't very uncommon news.
"Okay..." Silena says, obviously confused. "Is that all?"
