Chapter 1: The Beginning

It's my birthday today, but no one knows; actually, I don't think people care. I mean, who would? I'm just a some-what athletic nerd that people use to do their homework and what not. I walked down the hall, heading for my locker, which thankfully for me was the one next to the wall and the only one next to it was unoccupied. I sighed as I spun in the combination for the lock, tugging open the door and taking out my books for the next two periods. I had another fifteen minutes till the beginning of class, so I thought I'd head to the library for a while. Closing the metal door of my locker and locking it up, I turned and headed in the direction of the library, only to bump into someone.

"Hey watch it!" In front of me stood the school's most popular senior, Henry Smith, a generic name for a generic bully. I winced, yeah I know I'm 6'4 and intimidating height wise and Henry was only 6 foot but still; he was captain of the football team and one of the toughest guys in school.

"So," I gulped as he continued to talk, his football goons standing behind him, almost waiting for the word to attack, "did you finish my homework?" I felt my eyes widen and I immediately swung my bag over my shoulder to grab out the completed homework sheet signed with Henry's name on it. Without a single word I passed it over to him and went to go back to my path to the library.

"Hold it nerd!" I did not want to be flushed in the toilet bowl this morning, so I ran for it, ran for my life. I bolted down the halls and could hear the squeaking of shoes behind me, hot on my trail. Ahead of me was the principle and in panic I took a sharp right and tripped over my own feet, resulting in me falling onto the floor and sliding under people's feet rather than falling on to them. I groaned, doing a push up and standing back up; I knew people were staring at me confused and probably laughing at me but when I heard Henry and his henchmen come sprinting down the hall yelling my name, I took off again.

Luckily for me, they ran straight into the small group of people that I slid under beforehand. "Heh..." I said looking back, thinking about how lucky that was to dodge making other people fall over and get hit in the head by Olivia- the class representative. But as lucky as I may be, still sprinting in the halls and now looking forward I ran into someone... again.

"Ugh..." I groaned, picking myself up off the person I fell on to. I stood up and reached a handout to whoever they were with a million apologies.

"Nah, it's fine. Not like you charged at me or anything." The soft giggle made me look down at them, surprised they weren't angry at me, the pathetic nerd running into them. I couldn't help but stare, the way her chocolate brown hair bounced at her shoulders, her dimples in her cheeks as she smiled up at me, and those bright green eyes. My heart sped up the more I looked at her, I apologised again for running into her.

"Are...are you new here? I don't think I've seen you before?" I blurted out, to be honest, I haven't seen her around before but that doesn't mean she was new, god I really am an idiot.

"Yeah, actually. I um, I transferred here this morning." Her hand went to the back of her neck as she looked away sheepishly. "I'm Katsuko by the way, AJ Katsuko!" AJ held her hand out for me to shake, I took it almost immediately and introduced myself.

"Lukstur, Tobias Lukstur. Nice to meet you!" I smiled, I thought about how cool it would be to be her friend and actually have one person who didn't use me. But that thought quickly dissipated when the popular girls, the cheerleaders, approached us.

"Oh my god! Are you the new girl? I totally love your style!" Now that Stacy, the head cheerleader, had mentioned it, AJ's clothing was pretty cool. A long-sleeved grey turtleneck with a high waisted black mini skirt, she also had some light grey knee-high socks and black shoes. It hugged her figure quite nicely and I had to stop myself from staring.

"Thank you?" AJ sounded confused but rolled with it. I continued to watch as they all ignored my existence and kept talking to AJ, with introductions and compliments the usual long starting conversations.

"Anyway, why are you hanging out with this loser?" The question made me look up from the floor and between the popular girls, who were looking at me disgusted and AJ who looked really confused.

"Oh- he um, he was just introducing himself." I cringed at how innocent it was, it was true I was introducing myself; but American teenage girls really love to jump to conclusions.

"Oh? Have a thing for the new girl, huh nerd?" The trio of cheerleaders laughed at me; I was used to it by now. At this point I was just thinking at how perfect Stacy and Henry would be together. I sighed as they taunted me and slightly harassed AJ to hang out with them after class.

"Sure, whatever, I'll think about it." AJ said, it's kind of sounding like she was itching to get them out of her face. I glanced at my watch and saw that there was 5 minutes until first period, I looked back at the girls who were still trying to win over AJ's attention and regretted what I was about to do.

"I hate to interrupt, but you three have Mr. Hamilton's class, right? He would hate for you to be late..." I felt my palms get sweaty as the cheerleaders looked at me with a cold stare. I gulped, praying they wouldn't do anything.

"He's right though." The girl to Stacy's left spoke up, annoyed that I was right but listened since I'm the nerd and when it comes to school and not getting detention- apparently, I'm your guy. With one final glare, they all turned on their heels and strutted away like the diva's they are. I let out a relieved breathe.

"Oh, thank fuck. I thought I was done zo." I regained my composure and looked at AJ, who looked like she was struggling to find something. "Um- you okay getting to class?" I asked, assuming that was the reason she may be a tad stressed.

"Do you know where 15C is? It's Mrs. Eleanor's class." Once again, I met with her emerald green eyes. At first I couldn't say anything so I just nodded, I mean that's where my class was anyway. I told her to follow me and led her through the mazed hallways.

"It's a little difficult to find your way around but it works like streets, this is hallway 15 and on either side is the letters of the alphabet. So, on the left is b, d, f, etcetera and on the right is a and c! AKA our class for first period." I explained.

"Okay, so each of the five buildings have 3 hallways and however many classrooms." AJ replied, trying to get a stronger understanding of the large ass school grounds.

"Yeah." I shrugged, that was basically how it worked.

"And that's cool how we have first period together!" I looked back down at the girl beside me, her smile acting as a halo and brightening the room as we entered. I stood in the doorway for a moment stunned before getting out of it and headed towards my seat in the far corner next to the window. I sat down and placed my bag under the desk, I watched silently as other students flooded in and taking their seats. But this time, the desk directly next to me was taken by none other than the new girl. AJ.

[a/n: kinda a short chapter compared to what I normally do... but don't worry this is just the beginning.]
