Prologue
I was still deciding which dress to put on. It wasn't like a more than 50 people were going to show up. But to respect my mother's wishes I dressed well.
It still didn't hit me. It was over. Everything was over. I wasn't getting anxious or worried about my future nor was I worried as to what really happened to them, I was just numb. Maybe being emotionless was the best thing for me right now at least I would not do anything reckless, but being numb was frustrating at the same time. I didn't know how I was feeling. I was just, well numb.
The doorbell rang, I knew it was Chloe, my neighbor and one of those friends you grow up with who will never leave you till your coffin.
She seemed well dressed, as usual. Her red-brown hair were perfectly aligned with her long stands of ear rings. And the grayish black coat dress made her sky blue eyes look sadder than ever.
I was okay though. Well not okay but, as I said I was numb.
She gestured me to sit in the car parked outside the apartment, while she locked the door behind me.
The old red vintage looking car wasn't in a good condition but did its job to get you from point A to point B, I guess that's what matters more.
She drove slowly, I think it was maybe to give me more time to settle in the situation. It hadn't even been 12 hours yet. Both of us were quite; throughout the journey.
The ritual took place as any other. I was surprised at the turnout of 30 people. Maybe they weren't that disliked after all.
Chloe and I got in the car and drove back home, this was the longest drive Ive ever had considering it was hardly 7 blocks. Chloe offered to stay the night but I managed to put her off till breakfast.
There I was, standing in front of the same door, same carpet, and the same key in my hand. Knowing the two people in my life won't be waiting for me inside, with the barely edible dinner on the table and hardly half a piece on each plate, yet equally distributed amongst the three of us.
It had not hit me. They were gone. My parents. Dead. Over.
