Chapter 1
I woke up from the couch not realizing that the bed-room sheets were still made I entered the room, drawing the barely covering curtains to see the bed empty. Ignoring my thoughts I went to the kitchen; knowing that going to the school will be the best thing for me right now. I could imagine my mother saying 'stay home, sleep, get some rest' while I'd run out with half eaten breakfast. Ignoring these thoughts as well, I decided to skip breakfast all together.
I opened the door to see Chloe waiting in the car outside.
"How long have you been out here?" I asked closing the door of the car
"Not much" she replied, igniting the engine, I gave her the look, "45 minutes"
Poor girl she must've been confused, to give me space or to be with me all the time. I couldn't help but hug her at the moment while the center panel stood in our way squeezing our ribs, it didn't stop me from hugging her tighter while she hugged me back comforting me.
The school was here. I took a deep breath before entering inside and preparing for those looks and stares by everyone. Everything was quite normal until the lunch break. The regular broken lockers, make-out couples in the corridor, the casual glares by people and the teachers pat on the back during classes.
But that was the time everything changed. While I walked towards the school canteen, I heard my name being called by the principal himself. I was already done with people's sympathies that even the principal came up to me personally to share his sorrows. He asked me to walk with him till his office. Our faculty wasn't big enough and most of our teachers were repeating classes. I was glad that they weren't out of jail or on parole considering the neighborhood.
When I sat down the 3 and a half legged chair in his office, I saw two men with large build enter the room behind me. Standing tall like a tree with thick barks in their black tailored suits fitted at ease with their biceps, I got so lost in their stature I forgot I was with the principal until he cleared his throat grabbing back my attention.
"Miss Callie, I'm very sorry for your loss..." and they had started again, sorry, take care, we are here if you need anything, by now I had memorized their dialogues. So I pretended to listen
"So your real parents want to meet you" wait! What? rewind please
"WH... what?" real parents, what where when how? Whose real parents. Didn't they just die yesterday night?
"I know it's a shock for you but just follow these men and the rest will be debriefed by them"
Wait a second, let me process this. My parents died last night and now I have real parents? Wait what?
Before I knew it I was in a black range rover with tinted windows and those two suited men. I had so many questions but no one to give the answers yet, these people didn't seem like they knew anything so I just sat their quietly waiting to reach their desired destination.
