It was a cold autumn day. I was waiting for the bus in the parking lot, with one earphone on, my coffee in the right hand, and the other one in the pocket of my big brown coat.
"-You'll never believe what happened!" Sarah yelled as she and Zoe were approaching. I heard her and turned around.
I waited for them to say something but they didn't. Sarah seemed completely zoned out.
"-...what?"
"-Oh, right! Me and Zoe were in class when we heard Mason talking about you."
Mason was one of the popular boys. Sarah had a crush on him since 5th grade but I guess she figured out that he would never look at her that way long ago.
"-And what did he say?" I asked somehow irritated. I can't stand these popular boys and their opinions on people they don't even know.
Sarah looked at Zoe, hesitating.
"-Tell me!"
"-He made a bet with the others that he can make out with you at the party on Sunday." she whispered holding her tears.
"-Who said I'm going to that? Even if I do, what makes him think that I'll let him just make out with me. I can't believe him!" I saw her looking at the ground, trying not to show us that she was suffering for that idiot.
"-Are you okay Sarah?" Zoe asked quietly.
I hugged her.
"-I'm so sorry Sarah..." I tried to comfort her.
"He has no idea what a wonderful girl you are. ""-Thank you..." she whispered into my shoulder.
I looked up and saw Mason and his friends laughing. I knew it was a horrible thing to do and I wasn't like that. But maybe for the first time I have to speak up. So I pulled apart and wiped her tears with my sleeve.
"-I'm going to teach him a lesson."
"-WHAT? No, Madelyn come back! Don't!" she tried to convince me but I was already there, staring at them.
"-Oh look, the nerd is here!" Emily said approaching me. She was Mason's ex, but in my eyes she was just another girl trying to prove everyone her inexistent superiority.
"-Emily, I'm not in the mood. Can you please move so I can talk with Mason?"
She looked at me like she was going to beat me up. I never understood what was her problem with me. She was the popular girl that had probably 5 boyfriends in the last year and I was the quiet nerd that barely had friends. She eventually stepped aside, letting me get to Mason.
"-What's up?" he laughed looking at his friends.
"-I know about the bet. And I was thinking..." I giggled. I never did that. I never even dared to speak with any of them, but now I had to play my role.
"-What?" he was so confused as why I was acting like that. I was too.
"-Why wait until Sunday, right?" I smiled.
"You can make out with me now..." Who am I?At this point everyone was watching. Every single soul in that parking lot was watching me saying that. God..
He grabbed my waist and when he got closer I lifted my cup and spilled my coffee on his head. I'm pretty sure everyone was in shook. Some people were recording, most of them were laughing and Mason's friends were all just staring at me. I turned around and started running to the bus. I quickly threw the cup, took Sarah and Zoe and got in. We sat in our usual spots.
"-Are you insane!?" Zoe screamed.
"-What? I had to teach him a lesson!"
"-But you never do things like that.." Sarah said still in shook after witnessing probably the most interesting thing that happened this year.
I got off the bus, taking my book out of my bag so I could read while I was walking home. I needed to distract myself from the madness I just did. So I just started walking.
