We have to get out, we can't get caught. The authorities will destroy us if they find us. My sister can't lose me and I can't lose her, not after what we went through. That is what I tell myself everyday. When I was little our society was force-trained to be emotionless, once you were what they called "Washed" you would be forced to hand your kids over to the government to do the same. They would put you under scenario after scenario until they found your weakness, then they would exploit it until you would finally give in.
It was my mother's turn, she knew me and my sister were waiting for her at home, she wouldn't give in. Instead, she acted as if she had been put under, she told me that they had moved on like she was one of the others. When she got home she told us to hide, "Daddy will be home soon. Ari, watch Luscinia, and hide quick." she said as she walked out the door. I ran towards Luscy, and pushed her under my parents bed packing stuffed animals and books in front of her. I climbed in the toy bin once I was satisfied and peered out the keyhole, keeping watch of the door.
We stayed there for about half an hour before the door finally opened, it was our parents! I was about to jump out from the box when I realized that they weren't the only ones coming in. A woman with long dark red locks like mine, followed them, keeping a firm hold on both of their shoulders. Guards followed her inside.
"Search the premises!" I started to panic as I looked over at Luscy, finally seeing every flaw, crack, or hole that they could find and see her through. Then I looked back at my parents, they looked tired and beaten, they exchanged a worried look and locked hands. The guards came over to where we were hiding, I held my breath, careful not to do anything to give me away, I plead that Luscy was doing the same. I should've gone under with her, she's only 6, she was probably scared and confused out of her mind. One guard looked at the bed, I sucked in a tight, cold, breath, ready to jump out from my hiding spot and tackle him before he looked away and walked back to where the lady and my parents were. I finally exhaled and let my tense shoulders relax.
"All clear!" He reported, the other guard did the same.
"Good," The lady said, she pushed her finger, hard, into my mom's chest. "This is what happens when you lie to us. Execute them." I bit my tongue to keep myself from screaming.
