People surrounded me, jumping and dancing to the music that's playing on the stereo speakers inside Brad's parents house. I was never the type to hang out at parties, so this scene was unfamiliar to me.
Hearing a familiar laugh coming closer took my attention away from the ear bleeding bass that made the room shake.
Heather walks past me laughing with a group of friends as they head for the front door. She sings along with her friends to the song. Trevor and Mike at each of their sides, beers in hand. They've been drinking.
I try to scream out to Heather to get her attention but nothing comes out of my mouth no matter how hard I try. The people around me start to close in on me as Heather and her friends exit the house and out of my view. A heaviness started to build up in my chest as I pushed my way through the crowd. Panic fills me as I see them enter Mike's car through the screen door, my voice still gone, I watch as Mike takes the wheel and drives down the street. I rush to get to them only to be too late as they run through the stop sign and collide with the car coming from their right.
A scream escapes my mouth and echoes through my mind waking me up from my nightmare. Cold sweats overtake my body. I cling to my knees in hopes to control my anxiety waiting to see my mother's face come through the door. I cry silently to myself when she doesn't.
