𝔄fter the dinner, Val led me to a guest room where I would spend the night. Despite skipping dinner, I was offered the meal, but to my surprise, the food had no discernible flavour and left a bitter, ashen taste in my mouth. However, the other guests seemed to be savouring every bite, particularly the raw cuts of meat that were served. The house was a stunning masterpiece of architecture, resembling more of a majestic castle than a mere dwelling. It boasted countless bedrooms and bathrooms, each more lavishly decorated than the last. Val took me to a secluded room in the east wing, far from the hustle and bustle of the house. Though he looked apologetic about the distance, I was delighted to find that it was incredibly spacious, almost as large as a master bedroom. The room was adorned with floor-to-ceiling windows, which offered breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape.
"There are some pyjamas on the bed, and you can leave your clothes outside the door for laundry," Val informed me.
"Thank you so much, Val. I truly appreciate it," I expressed my gratitude.
"Sure," he replied, flashing a charming lopsided smile before leaving me alone.
As I looked around the room, my eyes finally settled on a large mirror positioned directly across from the bed. I walked closer to it, examining the intricate details of its ornate frame. As I gazed at my reflection, I was struck by the realization that I couldn't recognize the person staring back at me. There were no physical changes, but something about confronting myself in the mirror after committing a misdeed altered the internal landscape. I felt a tightness in my chest, and my breathing became shallow. Overwhelmed by self-hatred, I opened my mouth and let out a scream that reverberated through the room. The sound was loud and piercing, causing the glass of the mirror and windows to shatter into countless fragments. I was momentarily stunned by the destruction I had caused. As I bent down to pick up the pieces, I felt a sense of futility wash over me. The shards of glass slipped through my fingertips like sand, a poignant reminder that some things can never be fully repaired.
With the series of unsettling events throughout the day, I resolved to seek answers tomorrow. Exhausted, I decided to forgo a shower Instead, I put on the pyjamas provided on the bed and left my clothes outside the bedroom. As I lay in bed, I hoped and prayed that my dreams would take me away from the memories of today. But I knew that hope and prayer might not be enough for beings like us.
As I found myself standing in an unfamiliar place, I looked around and realized I was in a nightmare-inducing edifice that seemed to go on forever. The building was an intricate maze of corridors and rooms, with a disturbing blend of Gothic and macabre elements that sent shivers down my spine. The walls were adorned with grotesque statues and gargoyles, and the floors were made of cold stone that creaked underfoot.
Above, the ceiling was open, revealing a terrifying sight that I had never seen before. The sky was ominous, emitting an otherworldly glow that illuminated the entire building. The hue of the sky constantly shifted, ranging from a menacing, deep red to a scorching, fiery shade, mirroring the turmoil that saturated this unholy place.
As I continued to walk through the building, I felt an overwhelming sense of despair and terror that seemed to surround me. The air was thick with an indescribable feeling of unease, making it difficult to breathe. I could hear strange noises coming from all around me, and the sound of my footsteps echoed through the empty corridors.
Despite the fear that gripped me, I couldn't help but marvel at the intricate details of the building's architecture. Every corner of the place seemed to hold a new surprise, and I couldn't shake the feeling that the place was alive, watching my every move.
