The Supernatural Creator

Chapter 1:

"Nene-chan!"

Yashiro Nene turned. She had been busy gazing at her sketchbook all the while she was walking towards class. The drawing she made of the garden wasn't bad. It'll be even better as the scenery change as the winter change into spring, she thought. Behind her, her best friend Akane Aoi was running towards her, waving.

"Oh, good morning, Ao-chan!" Yashiro exclaimed, closing her sketchbook and stuffing it into her bag. "Where's Akane-kun?"

Aoi looked around her, her indigo hair and eyes sweeping around the hall. "Hmm...I think he went straight to the Council."

"Let me guess," Yashiro said as the twosome walked together towards their classroom. Various students were still around, talking about lots of things: social media, boys, and club meetings, with the most popular being gossiping. Everybody really loves gossiping these days, especially the students of Kamome Academy. "After confessing to you again?"

Her friend giggled. "You know him. He really doesn't want to give up, does he?"

"Why don't you ever say yes to him?"

"Why don't you ever show me any of your drawings?" Aoi asked, sidestepping the question once again just as she always sidestep Akane when he runs to hug her. "Do you really think that you're drawings are so terrible that you close your sketchbook when I catch you with it?"

"You do know Aoi that I'm not a person who loves showing off what she can do," Yashiro muttered, sliding open the door. Most of their classmates were already there, going about their business. Both of them placed their bags on their desk.

"Okay, then, why don't we change the subject?" Aoi suggested with her usual smile.

"I think that's a best idea you've ever come up with, Ao-chan," Yashiro commented and that seem to satisfy her best friend.

"Mm, you do know how I love to have my ears open for a new rumor," she said in her usual cheery tone.

"What rumor is it this time, Ao-chan?" Yashiro asked in disbelief. "It seems to me you've been hearing new rumors every single day if you don't count the weekend."

Aoi giggled in amusement. "Kamome Academy isn't called the 'school of rumors' for nothing, Nene-chan," she said. "Do you want to hear it or not?"

All the while Yashiro had been looking at the clock. Any minute now the bell's going to ring. She shrugged. "Sure. Rumors aren't all bad if they're not about a person."

"Well, technically, this rumor is about a person," Aoi told her. "Though a new one. I heard before I found you that our class is going to have a new student. A boy, too."

"What!?" Yashiro stood up from her seat incredulously. Everybody else turned to look at her. She waved at them sheepishly saying it was nothing and sat back down. "Are you sure, Ao-chan?" she went on more quietly.

"Yeah, I'm sure!" Aoi exclaimed excitedly. "I never get mistaken with what I hear."

"Well, that's true..." Yashiro couldn't help but agree.

The bell rang, making the two friends jump. Everybody else became aware of it too. They muttered something to their friend and positioned themselves on their desk, waiting for homeroom to begin.

Yashiro sighed. She wasn't always ready for school but it doesn't mean she hated it. Instead, to pass the time, she took out her sketchpad and started sketching the teacher's desk.

"Good morning, class," their homeroom teacher greeted them all as he entered and everybody greeted them back. "I know you may have heard that a new student will be joining you since you are all a bunch of gossipers." Everybody chuckled guiltily except for Yashiro who still haven't looked up from her sketchpad yet.
