Chapter 25: Fate and Fail
The blood moon hung heavy in the sky, casting an eerie crimson glow over the Omega territory. A sense of unease settled over the land, a palpable tension that even the most seasoned Omega could feel. Taehyung, the leader of the Omega pack, stood by the window of his home, his gaze fixed on the darkened landscape beyond the border. He felt a deep sense of unease, a prickling sensation on his skin that he couldn't ignore.
"Is something the matter, Leader Kim?" Mr. Joo, Taehyung's trusted butler, inquired, noticing the slump in Taehyung's shoulders and the troubled expression on his face.
Taehyung sighed, his voice heavy with a sense of foreboding. "Nothing... for some reason, I feel like something dangerous is going to happen," he mumbled, his intuition screaming at him, a feeling he couldn't shake. This was the first time he had felt this kind of anxiety, a primal fear that seemed to emanate from the very core of his being.
Mr. Joo, a seasoned veteran of the Omega pack, offered a comforting explanation. "You must have been frustrated to be away from your Alpha, Leader Kim. After all, you used to be with him most of the time."
Taehyung nodded, acknowledging the truth in Mr. Joo's words. "I guess so," he said, his voice laced with a touch of longing. "Well, I should go outside to patrol around and make sure that my people in my land are safe," he declared, turning to face Mr. Joo, who stood by the door.
"If that's what you want, Leader Kim," Mr. Joo bowed respectfully, his voice carrying a note of concern. "But you have to make sure that you won't cross the border of this land. I'm afraid I'll get an earful complaint from Mr. Park," he said, his gaze meeting Taehyung's, a subtle reminder of the delicate balance between the Omega pack and the Alpha pack.
Taehyung smiled reassuringly, his confidence unwavering. "Don't worry, Mr. Joo. I know what I'm doing." He stepped past his butler, heading out into the night.
The Omega territory was eerily quiet. The blood moon had cast a spell of fear over the land, forcing the Omegas to remain within their borders. The guards stationed at the border were few in number, their presence a silent testament to the trust Taehyung had placed in them. He had trained them to be vigilant, to fight back if necessary, and to restrain themselves from escalating the situation.
"It was so eerily quiet tonight," Taehyung muttered, his gaze sweeping across the darkened landscape, his senses heightened, his intuition screaming at him.
"As it should be. The outside of this border will be loud t─" Mr. Joo began, his words cut short by a piercing scream that echoed across the silent land.
"Leader Kim!" a voice cried out, laced with fear.
Both Taehyung and Mr. Joo turned toward the source of the scream, their hearts pounding in their chests. A young guard, his face pale with terror, was rushing towards them.
"The Betas… they're attacking us!" the guard gasped, his voice trembling.
"What?" Taehyung exclaimed, his face etched with confusion.
"They… they are coming n─" The guard's sentence was abruptly cut short as a burning arrow pierced his back, sending him crashing to the ground.
The silence of the Omega territory shattered into a cacophony of chaos. The Betas, like a swarm of angry hornets, had descended upon the land, their weapons blazing, their eyes filled with a cruel, predatory gleam. They had breached the border, easily overwhelming the guards who were tasked with protecting the Omega territory. The air crackled with the sound of gunfire, the fiery hiss of burning arrows, and the screams of the wounded.
"Get that person," Dongshik, the leader of the Betas, commanded, his voice cold and menacing as he rode his horse, a bow in his hand, his gaze fixed on Taehyung. "And kill that one. He's unnecessary for this plan." He raised his bow, a burning arrow aimed at Mr. Joo, who stood frozen in shock.
