I sat in the carriage right next to Pansy. She seemed a bit nervous and wouldn't stop staring at Draco who had been fiddling with his rings and staring out into the fields as the train throttled on the tracks.
I bumped her arm with my elbow and she quickly awoke from her little trance. "P, are you alright ? You seemed a bit lost there" I whispered. She seemed startled "Oh, no no I'm fine, it's just..." and before she could finish her sentence Zabini entered the carriage and plopped himself right down next to Malfoy, who was not phased by his presence and continued to stare out the window. Something was going on between Pansy and Draco, I wondered to myself what could've been said in the time of us entering Kings Cross Station - something had bothered the both of them but I chose to keep it quiet for now.
"Ah Miss Aria" Zabini gleamed: "I'm surprised to see you here back here with us and not with your filthy Gryffindor mates" he snickered, which caused Draco to come to a close to a death stare at Blaise. Draco never put up with anyone speaking down to me, even if it was his best friend - one cold glare from the pale blonde headed boy and you'd know trouble was ahead.
"Hush down Zabini " I snapped back "P insisted on me sitting back here with the three of you and now that I think about it that was a huge mistake, I'd rather sit with my so called 'filthy Gryffindor mates' than hear you rant on for 9 hours straight about all the girls you shagged this summer"
I quickly got up, rearranged my skirt and made my way to the other side of the train. I felt a set of eyes burning through the back of me and footsteps approaching, I heard that familiar voice. His icy hands and rings pierced the skin of my wrist and in one quick movement I was face to face with Draco.
"Hey, don't get so flustered because of Blaise - you know how he is and how tries to get to get everyone's nerves riled up" he said.
"Would be a lot easier if he didn't criticize my choice in friends every god damn time I saw him" I shot back - I was extremely annoyed.
He tightened his grip around my wrist and shot me a cold but endearing look before turning around and heading back. He knew how I got when I was annoyed and did not want to fiddle with my temper.
I took a deep and irritated exhale before finding my way into the carriage. Sarina & Sky were leaning forward on the edge of their seats exchanging cards which they had got from the chocolate frog case.
"Dumbledore ! Again, why does he always have to pop up in these bloody..." Sarina paused as she noticed my presence.
"Aria ! You're here. And looking a bit irritated if I may add" Sarina sighed.
"Yeah A, are you alright ? This isn't just your normal run of the mill irritation face. I'm assuming Zabini ?" Said sky.
"Yes, fucking Zabini" I said while flicking back a strand of hair that had flopped to the front of my face when I scurried away from the three Slytherins.
I flopped down into the plush seats and in a second I had both my friends pull me in for a comforting hug.
"We missed you ! We wanna hear all about your summer at the Malfoy's" Sarina said.
As I was about to fill them in on the little encounter with Malfoy in walked Rosie, looking as pretty and perfect as ever. Rosie and I had been friends for as long as I can remember. She got me, I'd never met someone that had the same thoughts as me, the same passions, the same jokes and personality. She was also in Slytherin and like Pansy had a protective coat over me.
"Aria" her face lit up and she seemed incredibly happy to see me: "Come here you beauty. Oh I missed you so much. Not fair that the bloody Malfoy's had to hog your presence all summer, I missed out on some wicked activities to spend with my Best friend"
"I missed you too my friend. But don't worry, I'll stick it to that family this summer so that I'm all yours !" I shot a friendly wink.
We all flopped down onto the seats and engaged in conversations about what we all had gotten up to in the summer. The three of them engaging deeply but I couldn't help but think back to the moment I had with Draco earlier, reminded of the feeling of his cold hand upon my wrist and those piercing grey eyes staring deep into mine. I wondered if he genuinely knew about my sudden feelings towards him, I wondered if he wanted to tease me about it.
The train came to a hesitant holt and everyone was ushered out. Annoying little first years with their over excitement and curiosity were running all around that I lost sight of my friends. I decided to stop on the spot and wait for them to all move out of the way. I snapped out of my daydream when I saw Pansy and Draco out of the corner of my eye. I tried to not make it so obvious that I was eavesdropping and so I decided to drop down and pretend to tie my shoe laces.
I couldn't hear much, but by the look upon both their faces and the faint irritation in their voices I got as much that something was up and that I needed to find out what it was.
