Chapter One 

Good and Bad

"What do you want to do today, Lucian?" Rosabelle asked as she finished brushing her hair and looked at Lucian in the mirror to see that he was in the doorway to her sitting room.

"Whatever you want to do princess." Lucian said.

Rose put the brush down and turned toward Lucian, "We've been friends for years right Lucian? How many times do I have to tell you to call me Rose?"

"Sorry...Rose," When Rose smiled at this he smiled too. "But you know how I enjoy teasing you."

At this rose glared at him and said, "If you were anybody else but my friend I would have you arrested for teasing the royal princess, and on her eighth birthday no less."

When Lucian just laughed she gave hmpt   and said, "I want to go into town today...without my watch dogs."

Lucian furrowed his eyebrows as he thought oh no. "Do you really think that's such a good idea I mean you remember the last time..."

"Yes but last time we were dressed as royals this time we are going to dress as normal people," Rose said as she walked out of her sitting room into her room to grab the bundle her lady-in-waiting Elizabeth had given her the other day.

"What's that supposed to mean?" Lucian called out.

"It means exactly what I said," she replied as she walked out of her room with the bundle in her hands.

"What. Is that?" Lucian asked as he eyed the bundle warily already knowing he wasn't going to like it.

"Oh this, it's our disguise." Rose said as she threw half the bundle at Lucian-who was still standing in her sitting room doorway.

When he caught the bundle and realized they were plain clothes he was pissed for a second then he sighed and thought Why bother being mad I knew when we met at the age of 4 and her first words to me were, "Hey feel like playing a prank on the king with me?"That she would be trouble. But he had to admit that he did enjoy most of the stuff she did. And besides he was sick of always being watched by Rose's guards when they went out.

Just for form Lucian put on an exasperated face and said, "I really think we should at least bring one guard. I mean don't you remember last time."

Knowing already that Rose wouldn't listen and would come up with a good reason not to follow his advice and he wasn't disappointed.

"What happened last time happened because I had my guards with me!" Rose said. Then she put on her cutesy face and said, "Come on today's my eighth birthday can you please do this for me. Please."

Lucian sighed but inwardly he was smiling. "Fine I'll go with you. Let me just go change."

"Yay," Rose said as she clapped her hands together. "I'll meet you at the secret library."

"I'll see you there." Lucian then bowed with a smirk, "Princess."

Then he hastily escaped out of the door before Rose could throw a stuffed animal at him.

Back in the room Rose stared at the door with a scowl on her face, but when she heard Lucian delighted laughter she couldn't fight her own smile.
