About a month ago Sirius started dating a seventh-year Gryffindor girl named Louise Domina. She was known for her looks and short temper, really she could be quite sweet but it's almost as if she jumps at any opportunity to get upset with somebody. Sirius Black isn't known for having the best temper but it's not too bad either, that is unless someone else starts something. From what Remus could overhear from his spot on the couch the couple was fighting about something Sirius had said to her that morning. Remus had gone with Lily to the library for a bit of extra studying for their transfiguration test that afternoon, so he hadn't heard what Sirius had said.
"It was just a joke, Louise!" Sirius exclaimed probably louder than he meant to.
"Well, then it wasn't very funny Black!" Louise yelled back. Remus could tell that she shouldn't have called him that, it was fine from teachers in a formal manner, but the way the name rolled off her tongue with a poisonous venom made it clear it was meant as an insult.
"Well, I'm sorry you just don't get my humour! Moony would have thought it was hilarious." Remus was a little startled to hear Sirius use his nickname in such a tone but he just sat there silently pretending to read his book.
"Well, then why don't you go hangout with your boyfriend then if he's so much better than me!" Louise spat before turning on her heels, her curly brown hair swishing behind her as she made her way for the girls' dormitory.
Sirius plopped down on the couch next to Remus with an exasperated sigh. "I swear to Godric if I have to listen to her going off on me about a joke one more time I might drown myself in the black lake."
Two weeks went by with at least two more arguments about whichever things Sirius said that Louise didn't agree with and Sirius had yet to drown himself in the lake. Remus was laying in his four-poster humming the tune to his favourite song, he and Sirius used to sing it together in the mornings as they got ready for classes making absolute fools of themselves, sometimes James and Peter even joined in on the fun. Remus supposed that it wasn't a cool thing to do anymore now that Sirius had a girlfriend and James finally had even the slightest potential getting Lily to like him. Sirius had loved those moments, they felt like little bits of the happy childhood he didn't have, but then one time Louise caught them singing and of course she made a big deal about how it wasn't the way he should behave, he was in his sixth year after all. Since then it didn't feel as special. Of course, Louise would never understand what life was like at home for Sirius, not the way James or Remus did, she had no idea what Mr. and Mrs. Black were like to their son.
"Hey, Moony are you coming to watch the quidditch practice tomorrow? James and I have been working on a new technique for the match against Ravenclaw this weekend. The practice is kind of early though, we don't want anyone to see what we're working on and tip off the other team." Remus couldn't help but smile at the excitement on Sirius' face as he walked out of the bathroom talking about quidditch. It was one of the few things that always made Sirius happy no matter how down he was.
"And what kind of a best mate would I be if I missed it?" Sirius beamed at Remus.
"I don't know why you don't try out for the team Remus," James joined in the conversations from his bed. "You've been to nearly every practice and you're always there cheering us on at the matches too. We'd do great with your enthusiasm on the team."
"Prongs you know I don't play, I just like to support you lot," Remus held back the fact that he might not have gone to all the practices had Sirius not been on the team, but that was only a minor detail.
"Whatever you say," James replied, mumbling something about being the right build for a beater before Sirius cut him off to tell them that he'd seen Snape looking rather upset that morning and Lily keeping her distance. This got James' attention but Remus decided it's about time he got to sleep.
