Your POV

I sat in the kitchen table after eating breakfast, just some average cereal. My longtime girlfriend, Maria wanted me to go to her friend's new years party. Of course, how could I say no? Peggy is my best friend! And Maria wanted me to go last year but I refused to, so I'm going this year just for her.

Unfortunately I don't get along with some of the people Maria is friends with, yes most of them are chill but I don't like loud noises, and some are really loud. I shake that feeling away to get up, put my cereal in the sink and head to the bedroom to pick some  above average clothes. 2020 was a horrible year and I want to leave it with a big middle finger.

A few hours pass and I'm waiting for Maria to come back, we're driving there together, the best part about getting ready.

Maria's POV

I drive back home to pick up my beloved so we can drive together to my best friend's party. I went to get the paper plates since Peggy was out of them. I pull up in the drive way and honk my horn, and there they are, the most beautiful person in the world.

Y/n gets in the passenger side of the car and closes the door, I give them a kiss in the cheek before driving off, on our way to celebrate the end of a horrible year.

It took us a few hours since we're quite far from the city, but we made it just past 3pm. We get out and head inside since the door was already open. Peggy greets both of us with a big hug as y/n looks at me with a smile, before heading off to get some drinks... I let her, since this is the time of celebrating.

3rd person POV

It's about 11:55pm as everyone as gathered outside to do the countdown, the gang were pretty close to where the normal new year celebration takes place in Manhattan, but due to covid the crowd is small. Y/n and Maria are side by side, singing good old songs from the 2010s.

11:56pm.

Maria looked at y/n. " dear sweet y/n, my love, my best friend, this night wouldn't have been magical without you. " y/n blushed as Maria continued;  " we've been together for 5 years now, those five years have been truly amazing. "

Hercules, with his pregnant wife looked over in awe, as more people turned to the lovestruck couple.

11:57pm.

Maria was running out of time, she took this opportunity to get on one knee as y/n gasped. " y/n, I wouldn't have asked anyone else this.. " at this point y/n was in tears, tears of joy when the whole crowd turned towards them.

11:58pm.

" y/n, will you be my beloved, will you marry me? " everyone gasped and squealed as Maria pulled out a ring. Y/n stayed silent for a while.

11:59pm.

Y/n looked at Maria deep in the eye, how could they say no to her? " YES. " y/n cried as the crowd screamed and cheered. Maria smiled as she put the ring on their finger, kissing y/n. Y/n kissed back as the 30 second countdown began.

Everyone sang in rhythm and on beat as they counted down to 2021: "5, 4, 3, 2, 1.. HAPPY NEW YEAR!! " Maria and y/n looked at each other, then kissed as soon as the ball dropped.

Happy new year for them indeed.
