The two girls, Kunmi and Peju, continued to walk down the deserted streets, and the rain still hadn't stopped, but it had reduced a little bit. The stormy cloud seemed to have abated a bit, and it gave them a little hope. They were drenched, cold and extremely tired. But Kunmi still insisted that they kept walking.

"Kunmi, I can't feel my legs anymore!" Peju whined, and feigned tears. Kunmi still said nothing, and that made Peju ponder further, on who that guy was. "Who was he, anyway? And why did his presence have such an effect on you?" Peju couldn't help but ask.

"He's no one." Kunmi muttered, and felt like her words bit back at her instead.

"If 'no one' meant he knows a lot about you, then I'm pretty sure you're delusional. C'mon! Tell me who he is. I'm out here, freezing to death, and it's cause I do not want you to freeze to death alone. So would you please give me an explanation for what went down there?" Peju said, still trying to keep up with Kunmi's fast pace.

Kunmi heaved a long sigh. There was no point in ignoring Peju any longer. She deserved to know. "We used to be friends," she said the words like they were so heavy on her tongue. "No thanks to my foolishness, like he had said, I ruined the relationship between both him and a friend of mine whom I— whom I came to love. No, let me rephrase that. I was obsessed with him, but he loved someone else. To cut the long story short, I ruined our friendship cause I was too much of a fool to know that I was at fault. I blamed the guy from earlier, and blamed the guy I loved for not loving me like I hoped..." At this point, Kunmi let out a bitter chuckle. "I'm such a dimwit, you know? And I'm such a coward. I left this country for India cause I felt hurt, angry, and felt like they weren't worth my friendship. I'd already been considering heading back to India before that all happened, so when it finally did; I left. Like the foolish girl I am." She said, and her voice shook.

Peju put an arm over her shoulder, sympathetically. "I'm sorry about that. And please quit calling yourself a fool. You made a mistake — and no one is exempted from making mistakes. At some point of our lives, we all fall victims to some kind of mistake or the other. It's not your fault, Kunmi. So please don't blame yourself for it." Peju said, and Kunmi nodded her head and sighed again.

"He hates me now. I just knew he would." She muttered, and Peju scoffed.

"The best thing you can do for yourself, is to get this weight off your chest by apologizing to them both. And even after that, you can act like you guys weren't friends, or rebuild the friendship again. It's your choice to make." Peju said, and Kunmi shook her head in refute.

"There's nothing to rebuild in our friendship. It's broken beyond repair." She said, with a bitter smile on her lips.

"You won't know, unless you try. I'm just saying, but just do what you feel is best for you. Some fears aren't best solved by continuously running away from them. Sometimes, you have to put on some tough skin, and face your fear. It's hard, I know. But you can at least try." Peju's words earned a small smile from Kunmi.

"Look at you being all 'motivational speaker' on me." Kunmi teased, and Peju chuckled.

"My dear oh!" Peju chuckled again. "I didn't even know I had it in me. I should probably be a life coach or something. Like dang! I'm such a natural!" She laughed, and playfully nudged Kunmi too. Kunmi managed to smile, and they kept walking. With their teeth chattering, and their bodies shivering from the harsh cold. It was going to be a not-so-nice walk back home.

Grunts after grunts, and yells after yells, Damola slowly got his anger under control. He hadn't left the supermarket, yet. And he seriously didn't know why he hoped Kunmi would come to apologise. All he needed, was for her to apologise. But she never apologised. Not once. And the fact that she still didn't feel sorry for what she did, made him think she never felt bad about all that had happened. Yet, watching her walk away, under the rain, really made him concerned. He may have been mad at her, but he certainly didn't want her getting sick either.
