Once off the school bus Dylan took my hand in hers and pulled me to a classroom. She seated me next to her and we waited.
"Are you not much of a talker?" She asked, turning to me.
"I just dont like getting involved with people. They have a tendency of dying." I answered, looking into her eyes again.
I got lost in them. I could see everything.
"You might think im crazy? But I can see when people will die. But when I look into your eyes, I cnlan actually see them. I can see the deep stormy grey. There beautiful."
When I realizee what I had just said was stupid I turned and started at my desk.
"That was sweet of you to say Dylan." She laughed.
"Actually Dylan, im transgender. My name is Leo. Or atleast, thats what I want it to be when im older." I said hesitantly.
"Then I will call you Leo. Its a good name. My fahers name was Leo."
Just then the school bell rang, and class started. The teacher introduced me, and I got the usual insults for being different.
"You know what? Im not going to be here long, so dont talk to me, and I wont talk to you, I wont get involved in anything more than reading, I wont make any friends, and ill stay out of your way. Leave me alone and ill do tye same for you. I know the drill. Sens I was fifteen ive been through sixteen different schools, and im only seventeen. So dont give me shit just becaus im different from you."
The room was quite for a second, then the teacher started talking. It wasnt long before I zoned out and got lost in the thoughts that never seemed to leave me alone.
'Why did my father leave me?'
'Why can I see things that no one else can?'
'Why do thety all hate me?'
'Why can I fix machines better than myself?'
It was always the same thoughts. Day in, day out. They never left me alone, and my mom never answered any of them.
I sat through the rest of the day, lost in thought most of the time, and when I got home things were off with my mom and brother. But I didnt notice It until I was half asleep. I felll asleep, and the fire started.
