The days before the mission passed in a flash. Keira spent every waking moment training with either Oliver or Isabelle, who had become a close friend. Finally, the day came.
Keira took her first look at the attire she was supposed to wear. A blue close cut shirt, navy pants, and a black jacket with the rebellion's symbol on the right shoulder- a circle within a circle, the two connected by eight evenly spaced lines. The outfit was finished off with a pair of black boots and brown fingerless gloves.
Once she pulled everything on, Keira went to the weapons room where she grabbed a belt with two pistols, three daggers attached to a band that went around her thigh, and one sword strapped across her back. She clipped the pouch of flares to a band wrapping her shin, and hid additional knives in her boots.
Keira was tying off her braid when she met Crate and Oliver outside the house.
"Well don't you look dashing!" Oliver's jacket complimented him in every way possible.
Before Oliver could respond, the rest of their group arrived.
"Let's move out!" they followed Crate down back alleys so as not to be seen until they reached the border of the town.
"Everyone cross!" they quickly ran across the street the convoy would soon be approaching on. Keira climbed up a tree on the other side, drawing a gun.
They waited. Crate would every now and then relay signals to the other team in the city. They waited some more.
A scout leaned in toward Keira from their tree.
"Incoming, pass it along!"
Keira warned the next scout of the approaching convoy, then leaned down toward the bushes where other rebels were and notified them as well.
Soon they could hear tires on gravel. The plan was to reveal themselves when they were surrounding the convoy. Right about now.
Scouts all around her jumped from their trees and fired through the glass windshields of the trucks. Keira followed suit, and soon all the rebels on their side were attacking the drivers of the trucks.
Soldiers exited from the back of multiple vans. The rebels were greatly outnumbered, until the other team joined in.
Keira pulled out her other pistol and fired. She couldn't believe she might have lived with these people! Soldiers trained to kill without any thought as to who they are hurting. They only worry about what their King, a traitor to the people, ordered of them.
"Ever been in a fight like this before?" Isabelle ran up next to her and shot a soldier Keira hadn't seen. The bullet hit his leg, and he fell down in pain.
"No, I don't think so!" Keira shouted back. "You?"
"Never!"
They stood back to back and fired on the soldiers aiming toward them.
