when thorn saw the wave of crows headed towards her, she knew she was done. schlatts crows were unescapable.

she almost gave up. she had made up her mind to stand there and accept her death, like the coward she thought she was. she stared directly at the crows, not moving, as one threw the first stone.

but then she heard the scream.

dreams scream was blood curling and chilling. it pierced the air, desperate and almost hysterical. the sound managed to jerk thorn back to reality.

she looked around, and saw dream being restrained by sapnap and sam at the castle door. around her was nothing she could use as cover, but her shield. thorn heaved it over her head, grabbed the bee, and ran.

the crows had finally reached l'manburg, and the arrows and stones started raining down. thorn started zigzagging, hoping to through the crows off enough to escape injury. but the crows had been trained their whole life for this style of battle.

the first arrow landed in her right shoulder. it was deep, and jolted thorn forward a bit. she just gritted her teeth and kept running, not letting her eyes leave the door.

the next arrow sliced her left bicep. it just missed it's intended target, but still left a big gash. the blood immediately started pouring out. if thorn wasn't being chased by a hoard of blood thirsty crows, she would have stopped to bandage it. unfortunately, she was.

she was almost there, maybe 5 meters when the third arrow hit. it hit thorns calf, specifically a deep vein.

by now thorn was suffering from blood loss. with the combined injuries, she was now stumbling as she ran. her head became light, and her vision swam.

but the encouragement and pleading from dream kept her going. he was no longer restrained, but was holding his arms out to her. dream, along with all of l'manburg was shouting and waving, encouraging her to run

she dodged one last rock before barreling into dreams arms. he scooped her up in his arms, burying his into her hair. thorn returned it by burying her head into his neck.

"you're safe, you did amazing my star" he cooed comfortingly.

with a boom the doors closed, sealing off the l'manburgians from the crows. gently, dream put thorn back to her feet and watched as she stumbled over to tubbo.

"here tubs, next time don't forget him, ok?" she said kindly, ruffling his hair.

tubbo launched himself forward and hugged her, sniffling into her shirt. thorn winced but patted his back.
