The day had gone by fairly quickly, well for everyone at least. For Tsukishima and Hinata, not so much. They had been in an awkward state since this morning and both Sugawara and Daichi could immediately tell something was wrong.
Meanwhile, Tanaka and Nishinoya wouldn't stop teasing Hinata about the events pushing Hinata little. "C-Come on! Please stop, it was just nothing! He tripped and he fell on top of me, I swear!!" Hinata reasoned.
Tsukishima had been silently watching them pestering the poor tangerine. He saw the slight trace of pain in his brown eyes and finally had enough. He approached his upperclassmen, "oy, maybe you should leave him alone now?" He asked.
"Oho, protecting him now?" Tanaka asked.
"No, you've kinda been pressuring him this whole time. I don't think that's good." Yamaguchi spoke up approaching them.
"G-Guys it's fine seriously! It's just a little bit annoying..." Hinata laughed but Tsukishima knew it was fake, faker than anything he had ever seen from the small teen. "B-But yeah... could you actually stop..?"
"I'm so sorry my little kouhai" Nishinoya frowned.
"N-No! There's nothing to be sorry about!" Hinata frantically said trying to stop his upperclassmen from being sad.
"B-But..."
"No buts! I said it's fine, it's just that you were kind of pressuring me so... yeah..." Hinata said and forced a smile, "I swear it's ok."
Nishinoya looked at Hinata and smiled, "alright if you say so. Just next time tell us if we're pushing you, y'know. You gotta speak up for yourself!!" He said and went back to practicing receiving Yamaguchi's and Kinoshita's float serves.
"Yeah, sorry again Hinata." Tanaka said and walked off.
Hinata heaved a sigh and turned around, clutching his aching chest. He hated it, he hated when people pushed, then again it was nothing new. Back in middle school and in elementary he was always being pushed around.
Constantly doing what others told him to do, but the one thing he was never capable of doing was killing himself. He knew that if he left the world, Natsu would suffer and he didn't want that. "Oy, you alright?" Tsukishima asked bringing the ginger head back to reality.
"U-Uh... yeah, I'm fine." Hinata said and just when he was about to leave he felt a hand on his shoulder.
"Don't lie, Hinata-"
"I said I'm fine..." Hinata repeated and walked off, rushing over to Kageyama begging him to practice their quick attack which the milk loving boy agreed to.
Tsukishima cursed under his breath and walked back to where he had been sitting before, chugging his water and wiping off his sweat with his towel. Soon enough Coach Ukai called them to continue practice.
~
Night came by and everyone had finished bathing and eating. Now, everyone was in bed sleeping soundly except for Hinata and of course, Tsukishima who had suspected that the small teen wouldn't sleep that night.
Tsukishima watched as Hinata left the room, as quiet as a mouse and headed off to somewhere. Not long after Hinata left Tsukishima got up and put on his jacket. He wandered out of the room and out of the building, going down the street and towards the store that was still open.
He entered the shop and bought whatever he needed to buy.
Once he paid for the item he headed out and went back to the place they were staying at. He wandered around the building calling out to the ginger head. "Hinata, where are you? I know you're awake." Tsukishima cooed.
"Where is that shrimp?" He asked himself.
"I'm not a shrimp!" He suddenly heard.
The blonde turned around, trying to find the area the voice had come from. "I'm up here you tall beanpole!" He heard and raised his head, seeing Hinata on peering over the roof with a small smile.
"What are you doing up there? And how did you get up there?" Tsukishima asked.
Hinata grinned and pointed to a ladder next to a few crates that were stacked on top of the other. Tsukishima sighed and climbed up the old ladder, "seriously why are you up here?" Tsukishima asked a little angry he had to put effort into climbing a ladder just to get to Hinata.
"I couldn't sleep, and I found that ladder last night so I decided to climb it and come up here." Hinata smiled looking up at the starry night sky.
Tsukishima slowly nodded and looked up at the view of the stars. "You didn't eat dinner." Tsukishima suddenly spoke up after a minute of silence between them.
"U-Uh... yeah, I didn't..." Hinata admitted with a chuckled.
Tsukishima rolled his eyes and handed him a paper bag, "here, I just bought them for you." He said, looking away from Hinata, trying to hide the blush that had appeared on his face.
"E-Eh...? Y-You didn't have to-"
"Too bad, I decided to. Now eat." Tsukishima huffed.
Hinata smiled and took the paper bag, "thank you Tsukishima." He said and opened the paper bag, realising what was inside it. "Waah!! Meat buns!!!" He beamed and immediately began to stuff his face.
Tsukishima snuck in a glance at Hinata and smiled, seeing his happy expression made him smile. Come to think of it... why did I buy those meat buns for him? He asked himself but then shrugged the thought off and continued to watch as Hinata happily ate his favourite food.
Cute... Tsukishima subconsciously thought.
He later realised what he had just thought and his face turned beet red. Wait what? Why would I..? No, nope! I'm straight! He's not cute! He's just an annoying ball of sunshine! Tsukishima thought mentally slapping his face and trying to regain his composure.
Ahhh, stop blushing you fool! He scolded and released a sigh.
"That was delicious!!" Hinata laughed making Tsukishima jump at the sudden sound.
"T-That's good." Tsukishima stuttered and stood up, "come on, let's go back in. It's getting late and we have a game against Aoba Johsai tomorrow."
"Ah! Right, I almost forgot!!" Hinata chuckled at his own silliness, making Tsukishima smile a little. Cu- No! NOPE!! JUST NOPE!!! Get out of here weird thoughts!!! Tsukishima growled and climbed down the ladder with Hinata following him.
Soon enough the two teens were back in the room and getting back into bed. Hinata turned around to face Tsukishima, "hey Tsukishima..." He whispered.
"Hm?"
"Thank you... again." Hinata said smiling under the blanket that covered most of his face. "You're not actually all that bad, so thank you for putting up with me."
Hinata turned back around to hide the blush on his face. Tsukishima smiled to himself, "anytime... shrimp." He said before turning away from Hinata.
The both of them falling into a deep slumber with smiles plastered on their faces.
