There was an impatient knock on the door. Shawn groaned to get it. He hadn't been outside or talked to anyone. He's just been in his condo for the past few weeks because he had no energy to do anything else except think about Crystal Paige.
He may as well be depressed because all that he has been doing was eat, sleep, cry, watch Netflix, cry some more, or hit the punching bag too aggressively.
The person behind the door knocks aggressively again making Shawn yell at them that he's coming. It was just probably another one of his friends telling him to get off his butt.
"Look, I'm not really in the mood for visitors right now. I'd appreciate it if you'll just—." He begins to say until he sees who is actually at the door. "Crystal?"
It was indeed Crystal Paige at the door and she looked like she'd been crying as well. Shawn felt instantly bad: He was the man and the one who wronged her but she was the one who had the guts to come over to his place.
"I'm sorry, I didn't know where else to go." She cried. "I took the train to Canada."
Shawn pulled her in his condo and shut the door behind her. "What happened? Are you okay, my love?"
She couldn't answer through her crying. Shawn led her to sit down on the couch and gave her a cup of water that he got from the kitchen. She drank it and was finally able to breathe a little bit.
"What's wrong, hunny?"
Crystal looked at him dead in the eye, through her tears. "Shawn, I'm pregnant."
The air was knocked out of Shawn's lungs. "I-is it mine?"
"Yes, you idiot. What do you mean "is it mine"? Of course, its yours!" Crystal whacked him at the arm and began crying again. "I-i don't know what to do! My parents! They'll hate me!"
"Shhh, calm down. Lay down, hun. And relax. I'm right here." Crystal didn't realize how tired she was until she did lay down and was asleep in a few minutes.
*
Crystal awoke to someone talking.
"Hi, baby. It's daddy. Mommy's asleep right now. She's probably really stressed and tired. I guess it's kind of my fault. Mommy and Daddy had a little bit of a misunderstanding, baby. Daddy's really sorry, though. Do you think mommy will forgive him?"
"Shawn?"
"Oh, hey. Sorry did I wake you?" Shawn was sitting at the floor, his hand on her exposed stomach.
"Who were you talking to?" Crystal sat up on the couch.
"Oh, no one. I was just- ummm. Singing." Shawn did tend to never shut up about singing, he only hoped she believed him.
"No you weren't. Were you talking to my stomach?"
She could always tell when he tried to lie. "Yeah, sorry. I was just- umm- talking to our baby." He admitted shyly.
"Oh." Crystal paused "Wait- I thought you wouldn't want it?"
"WHAT?! No! I mean yes of course I want the kid. You're still the love of my life, Crystal! I will be a father to this kid."
"Don't you think we're too young?" Crystal asked him.
"We could be. But there was a reason she came at this time. We'll have to own up to that."
"She?"
"I was just guessing. It'll be weird to call the baby an "it"."
Crystal nodded in agreement. "Do you want a girl?"
"Boy, girl. I'll take whatever as long as you'll be their mommy." He cheekily smiled at her. But secretly he wanted a girl.
Crystal finally took notice of his appearance. The bags under his eyes were dark; his eyes looked puffy like he cried last night; there was a shadow of a beard on his chin and his hair was matted with grease.
Crystal reached over to cup his cheek. Shawn leaned into her touch traced the lines of her palm with his nose. He closed his eyes and left little kisses on the inside of her arm. A tear escaped his closed eyes, past his thick lashes.
"I'm sorry, Crystal. I'm really sorry. Will you forgive me?"
"Shawn... You don't have to apologize, hun. You did nothing wrong."
"I'm sorry I made you cry and probably stressed you out. Please don't stress, it's bad for our baby."
"I probably just overreacted because I was pregnant, hun. You're okay." She assured him and wiped away his tears with her thumb.
"We're okay?"
"We're okay,"
"I'm in love with you." He tells her dead in the eye while he clutched her hands like his life depended on it.
"I'm in love with you, Shawn." She replied with a squeeze of his hands as well.
Shawn's voice was hoarse when he said. "Please don't ever leave me."
"I won't."
"We won't." Crystal corrected herself and rubbed her belly.
"I can't believe we're having a baby." He still stared at her like she was his world. Truth be told: Shawn was the one between the two of them that always wanted a family. Crystal had always been career-driven and have thought about having a family years after.
