Pavel Zourkova squinted at the small pieces of wood on his workbench. Gnarled hands gripped sandpaper. Push pull. Push pull. He smoothed away at the various small panels.
Pavel, by trade, was a carpenter. That was decades ago. Now he made smaller things. Building houses and barns and furniture was for younger men with stronger backs and better balance. Pavel's whole life was wood. Like his father before him, and his father's father. Even before him.
He made beautiful things like clocks. Many jewelry boxes. Ornate picture frames. Birdhouses. While many of his projects weren't always big, they were useful. Some were even important. Like the box he worked on.
