Chapter Two

? POV

I stop dead in my tracks. My body is frozen and I can't move. I've never been one for blushing, but this was embarrassing. The girl I'd just seen dressing in the middle of the hallway walked off without noticing I had ever been there at all. Call it what you will, but this encounter was a sign that today was going to be strange and very tough.

Once she is out of sight, I continue down the empty corridor. I'd expected a little more than a useless map when I came here and I was lost looking for the form room. I had my bag slung around my shoulder that was now becoming a burden, slipping off as I struggle to find my way. I stopped to look at my surroundings for guidance, but with no luck. This school seemed as useless as this pathetic excuse for a map, and I've only been here a day. Yesterday wasn't so great either. My stupid good for nothing brother decided he wanted to drive off in my car. That left me having to catch the bus to get home. Oh but that little shit knew not to steal my car ever again.

As I turn down a corridor, everything starts to look familiar. The time I'd spent walking around the halls yesterday at least gave me an idea of where I was now. Finally there's a sign on the wall that offers some help and I quickly find my way to the English department. Now that I've found where I need to be, I make a mental note of my surroundings, and head off to explore more of the school.

Grace's POV

I glanced at the clock above a huge stack of books, breaking my concentration from my writing. Its 8:30 am, so there is only ten minutes before form starts. No one would be at the room (everybody else waits for the bell), but I enjoy the alone time to straighten myself out before another day of school begins. On my way there, something on the floor catches my eye and I bend to find a five dollar bill. I smile at the crinkled note and feel like today will be better than normal.

I continue to walk down the hallway and head for the vending machines. This will be one of the few times I get to eat so I decide to treat myself. The money buys me a small soda, a pack large salted chips and a delicious mouth watering bar of chocolate. There was one point in my life when I had the luxury of chocolate (when mother was around). I bunched the things in my satchel and begin my journey to form again.

Just after I turn away from the vending machines, April glares at me in pure hatred and disgust. Her posy stand beside her with the same posture; arms folded and heads held up, thinking they're all high and mighty. The blonde bimbos give me a once over in unison. Each girl has the same disturbed look on her face. They could all be related if I didn't know any better. Rather than being individual and have their own look, all the girls decided that they would look to April as their idol. Stood before my was a mass of girls with the same gorgeous type of sundress with matching sandals, their hair flowing in the same golden wavy way, eyes the same shade of sparkling blue surrounded by a mountain of makeup, (whatever the boys were into).
April makes a noise that sounds something like a smug laugh, "Sure putting a lot of effort in today aren't we?" the girls laugh with her, "but your gonna have to be careful eating all the junk you do. You're getting fat!" A chorus of laughter followed as they all pushed passed me as I dipped my head my spirit dampened. Readjusting the bag on my shoulders, I slump myself to form room with my head still lowered. When I reach the door the bell goes and a massive rush of people suddenly occupy the hallways. Trying the door, I find that it's looked and slouch out of sight as the door becomes crowded by people. I move out of the way of everybody, keeping my distance. I don't look up even when the rest of my classmates flood in to the room. Heading for the back of the classroom as always, I peeped up from my desk to see that everyone was being quiet for once (strange). The chair I was sat in screeched as I shuffle forward. I pulled my notebook from my bag and just blocked everyone from my little world. Lost in my thoughts and writing, I jumped out of my skin when a piece of paper was thrust my way. I grabbed the sheet from Tina and studied it. It was just a register. I smoothly wrote my name on the paper curving the last letter of my name so that it under lined it. "Hurry up" sounded up in front of me and I stretched forward to pass the paper along. This caused me to hiss in pain, I sat down and composed myself.
