New york was dreary this morning. snow flurries whipped through the air; sheets of ice layered on top of each other like blankets. and like every other day, the weatherman fucking lied.

i began to fondle with the buttons on my son's coat, biting my lip in concentration as i attempted to click the buttons together. after i finished, i engulfed him into a huge hug, picking him up and resting him on my hip. my phone rang loudly for the hundredth time this morning, business calls coming in and out.

"shit," i whispered under my breath, quiet enough so little spencer couldn't hear me, my thumb slamming down on the end button fast enough that the ringer didn't wake elizabeth.

sean got called into work early this morning, leaving me to take the kids to daycare and run errands. all while taking a billion business calls.

i groaned as i struggled to open the door with the same hand that propped spencer on my hip. it took a few tries but i got the large oak doors to creak open.

the snow swirled around in the wind, my son digging his head into my chest as i locked the door. my black range rover beeped when i pressed the unlock button on my key, still struggling to juggle my kids. spencer squealed when he was swung over my shoulder and placed into his car seat. i buckled him in quickly and shut the door, jogging over to the other side of the car.

my hand swung the door open, the other placing liz's car carrier into the seat. i quickly buckled her in and shut the door before hopping into the drivers seat. the engine roared to life when i pressed the button down.

i passed my phone that was currently playing some kid's show back to spencer, his giddy hands excepting it quickly. the heat of the warm air met my skin, a sigh of relief leaving my pink lips as my head rested on the steering wheel.

i was so exhausted after a week of hard work and child care. sometimes i just wish i could fall asleep right in this moment, my kids being able to fend for themselves.

a text from sean broke me from my trance. be home late tonight, lots of stuff to do at the office. hope you and the kids are alright. love you guys xx.
i couldn't stop smiling at the text displayed on my screen, my fingers tapping a quick reply. we love you too. i'll leave dinner in the fridge. xx.

i tossed my phone and gucci purse into the passenger seat, shifting the gear and turning around, backing out of the driveway of our lodge-like house. my car traveled down the winding road, spencer giggling as he bounced up and down.

my bluetooth buzzed in my ear, my left hand reaching up to press the small answer button.

"hello, this is mrs. opry," i breathed out, handing a bottle to my son.

"shut up taylor," my best friend abigail snorted in the other line," we should go out to lunch today."

"yes, please, i really need some time to relax," i pleaded, using both hands to make a right turn.

i could hear her smile over the line as she responded," okay, i'll see you at oregano's at one."

"okay," i dragged out, pulling my car to a stop in front of the daycare," love you abi."

"love you tay," she piped before she hung up.

i needed a few hours with my best friend, drinking coffee and gossiping over fantastic seafood. that was an hour away though and i had two demanding kids in the back of my car.

spencer squealed at something on the large screen, clearly amused by the cartoon turtles who were fighting crime. he continued to giggle as i lifted him out and walked to the over side, receiving his sister. i rushed into the tower, eager to drop my kids off and finish my shopping before one.
