Toni's POV

Shelby Goodkind. Ugh. She was the perfect daughter. Funny, pure, had the kind of smile that made everyone take a double take. Her siblings followed her around like a dog with a bone. People always mistook her for being a dumb blonde, but the truth was, she wasn't. She was a lot more than what people saw. I could see that.

When I was walking to English, I saw Shelby out of the corner of my eye. She was with her boyfriend Andrew (world class douchebag). She stopped for a second and I heard her voice.

"Toni!", she shouted. I looked behind me a few times to make sure I was hearing right. I looked around awkwardly, "Hey Shelby.", I said tensely. She looked me up and down and chuckled. Her fucking laugh. It was the kind of sound that made every boy in the halls stop and stare. Girls would roll their eyes because she had that crazy kind of hypnosis on whoever happened to hear. But not me. Her voice was smooth like honey, but had hints of rasp, like when the air gets thick and damp in summer.

She kissed her boyfriend on the cheek and did a little run-walk to catch up to me. "Hey", she said again. "I know this is kind of awkward because the only time we usually talk is in Spanish but-", I cut her off quickly.

"You mean in Spanish when you ask me for homework every day?"

She blushed, I smirked.

She leaned closer into me because of the bustling murmurs of passing students. I felt her skin against mine and I blushed. I began looking at her up and down, mesmerized by all that she was. She laid her hand on my chest for one moment, to brace herself as the football captain barreled through the narrow hall. She ran it down my chest, and lifted it when it met the middle of my stomach.

She looked up, bit her lip, smiled, and looked back down.

"I was just gonna ask a favor."

I looked at her, my cheeks flushed. "I'm not the type to do favors", I said, still completely flustered.

"Oh come on Shalifoe, please?", she pleaded.

Shelby is the most annoying person to argue with because when she really wants something, her eyes turn into crystal balls that you kind of have no other choice but to become completely lost in. That's just what happened.

I was staring at her for way longer than I'm willing to admit. Her nose was nicely curved, sitting perfectly on her cupid's bow. Her eyes sparkled, and her lips. God, her lips.

"Toni!" she snapped.

"Sorry, sorry. Yeah, what's the stupid favor?", I stammered out quickly.

She rolled her eyes. "Can you meet me by the bleachers? After school?", she asked nervously.

"Yeah, but aren't you and Andrew supposed to rehearse for the stupid pep rally shit on Friday?"

She sighed in disgust. "Screw him okay Toni, look. Meet me there at 2:45. Okay?"

"Okay.", I said, mocking her snappy tone. She rolled her eyes once more and strode past me.

Once she'd passed me, I inhaled deeply.

She smelled like lemon and fresh air. The type of smell that's so sweet, that it lingers in your nose for so long that you can't really forget it.

There's a lot that I can't seem to forget about her.
