5- Something about his eyes

"Did you sleep well?" Hermione's voice pierced my thoughts.

"Yeah, of course," I lied. I really hadn't slept well, my head was too full for me to sleep calmly, but then again not full enough to focus that energy on a dream.

"Good, then you'll be rested enough for potions today yeah?" Ron chuckled, "If you're not too busy drooling over Malfoy."

I cut him off with a punch to his arm. "Zip it Weasley, you're just jealous that no one would ever dream of drooling over you." Hermione coughed. "And besides, I'm not going to the thinking about Malfoy, I'm going to be thinking about potions."

Harry rolled his eyes, "Whatever you say, boss." He shoved half of a sausage into his mouth, "just don't blow anything up, okay?" His words were a bit mumbled.

"Sure thing scar face." Harry swallowed his mouthful with a pout. I faked a cough, adding, "I mean, sure thing oh dear chosen one." My hands twirled small circles in the air, my head bowing into a curtesy.

"Jeez, looks like Malfoy is rubbing off on you." Hermione said as she smoothed a napkin over her lap.

I scooted my chair back, brushing off crumbs from my robes before standing. "Ha. Ha. Ha. Now if you don't mind I have to get ready for class." I swiveled around, the ends of my robes slapping the chair beside me, keeping my eyes low and away from the Slytherin table.

"Stir lightly, don't let the ingredients settle to the bottom unless you want to end up like Mr. Longbottom." Snape lazily waved his hand towards Neville who was sitting in the back corner, his face was glum and he looked like he was about to cry.

I wished I could go comfort him but my own potion had started to simmer in my cauldron. Funny enough the potion of the day was very similar to the one I had made with Draco.

"Y/n, snap out of it please!" Harry waved his fingers in front of my face, "You pay about as much attention in class as Ron does." He peeked over the lip of my cauldron, "stir it like Snape said." He turned back to work on his own potion. He was probably still mad about what I had said at breakfast.

The bubbles in my cauldron ceased as it swirled around. I used the memory of Draco's hand on mine to mimic the stirring pattern I needed.

Snape's shadow loomed from above me. Per usual, he only scoffed and moved along to terrify his other miserable students. I mean I assume my potion was correct, I had followed every step in the book correctly and read all the way through before moving on, just as Draco had said.

The skin on the back of my neck rose, I had a hunch someone was watching me as I worked. Keeping my eyes down and facing forward I ran my finger over an imaginary line in my text book. The last think I wanted was to look up and find I had made unwanted eye contact with Professor Snape.

"Huh hum." I could almost feel his eyes now. "Huh hum!" A deep voice scoffed. I gave in and looked up quickly expecting to see Snape's stare of disapproval, only I locked eyes with Draco.

Damn, those eyes again. I half expected him to look away, but he kept his gaze like I kept mine. The creases by his eyes deepened, almost like a silent smile.

I didn't dare blink, careful not to dull the thin spark that connected us from across the room. Draco nodded his head only slightly as a signal of approval. I must have been right about the status of my potion. Heat rose to my cheeks, I don't think I'll ever be able to feel a bit of doubt again.

"Shit." Harry's mumble barley made it through his gritted teeth. All eyes snapped to our shared desk. Harry's cauldron was on its side, his potion oozing over the edge and on to the floor. Before I could process how I should help, Snape had already made his way to Harry's side.

A turned my head towards Draco again, his smiling eyes had turned cold again while he stared at Harry like he was an unfortunate stain on his favorite tie. Turning to my work again, I quickly finished the last few steps so I could help Harry with his mess.

"Five points from Gryffindor." Snape snarled. "And another five for," Snape looked at the potion in my cauldron, "you didn't disappoint me as I thought you would." So close to being a compliment. "Fine then, only 5 for this class then. Harry get cleaned up before I make you do it with your bare hands." Snape stretched his foot to bump our desk as he walked back to the front of the room.

"Douche." Harry murmured.

I did it. I actually did it. My potion was 'not as disappointing as he thought it would be.' I'd have to tell Ron that working with Draco was paying off.

"Harry maybe you ought to ask Draco for help in potions," Hermione laughed.

"Oh shove off Mione!" Harry's furrowed eyebrows warped his scar. He sped up a bit so he was a few steps ahead of us in the hallway.

Ron called after him. "What's wrong? Mad that the newbie did better than you in class today?" Ron nudged my arm with his elbow.

Harry still stomped ahead. "Will you guys just leave him alone? He's already got points taken so I'm sure he feels bad enough." I punched Ron in the arm.

"Hey! That's mean!" Ron shoved his shoulder into mine, knocking my books and parchment to the ground. Ron quickly stumbled to the ground, grabbing at my stuff. "Shit sorry," he said, ruffling papers further across the hallway.

"Jesus Ron!" I lifted his hand off of my stuff, "you and Hermione go apologize to Harry and I'll pick up my things so they're stacked how I like it."

Ron stood. "But!"

"No buts. Just leave me and go!" With that I finally got Ron to hurry off after Harry. Klutz. I mumbled under my breath, grabbing a quill and stacking it with a book.

I had just finished gathering all my things in my arms and I was trying to leave when an arm shot out from the corner and grabbed my shoulder. I was being dragged  into the adjacent hallway like a rag doll.

"Jesus christ!" I was cut off by a shush. A pale finger pushed into my lips.

"You're so damn loud." A low voice echoed in the empty hallway. I recognize that voice.

I looked up, a finger still pressed to my lips.

"....bloody hell Draco."
