“Please, please, please, please, please, please”
“No”
“C’mon, you didn’t even hear what I said!”
“Of course I heard you, Gabbie. You said ‘I need a favor’” The girl mimicked with a pitchy pleading voice “And that’s my answer: No” She got up, taking her dishes to the sink and waking over to the living room.
“Rach, remember all the things I’ve done for you?” Gabriela followed her quickly “You can’t just blow me off like that!”
“Well, the last thing you did for me was oh, let’s see…” Rachel stopped for a moment, holding her chin making a fake thinking-face “Yeap, that’s right, left me to live all by myself to move into a love nest with an elf”
“Fine, the elf joke was funny the first twenty times, now it’s just stupid. Jack doesn’t even look like an elf; he’s more like a hobbit.” Gabe crossed her arms, raising an eyebrow “And wasn’t living alone what you wanted? All that privacy talk and stuff?”
“Hm, yes, but… You know…” Rachel sighed “I kinda… Argh, don’t make me say it.”
Gabe blinked innocently “Say what?”
“I miss you…” Rach pouted, pulling her friend into a hug.
Sure, living alone had its pros, but living with Gabriela was way more fun. Now she had bills to take care of, cleaning to do and it got really scary at night – especially after watching those horror movies on Channel 4.
“…And I mean, why is everyone doing something with their lives?” She continued, letting Gabe go “Brittany and Nasri got married, Theo is getting all serious with Ananda…” Rachel started counting “Your life turned into a fucking Desperate Housewives episode, better yet, a full season with the baby and the whole ‘bitch-baby-mamma’ thing and still, you look as happy as ever…” She threw her body on the couch, closing her eyes “And I’m stuck here with a sucky job, boyfriend-less, living on rent…”
“Are you having a mid-life crisis at twenty four?” Teased Gabriela with a grin “Look, the proposal I’m going to make is actually going to benefit both of us”
“Proposal? You said it was a favor.”
“Well, it’s a bit of both. Just listen, please!” Gabe shot Rachel her best puppy eyes and the girl signed for her to go on “So, two weeks ago, Jack and I were talking about how depressed Azza is…”
“Why would he be depressed? He’s hot, he’s rich, he’s got girls rubbing up on him like bees on honey and sure, he’s a jerk, but…”
“Can I finish?”
“Sure sweetie, go ahead.”
“So, Jack mentioned how Aaron was down since Vanessa left him to go to Spain…” Explained Gabe scratching the tip of her nose as she spoke.
“I don’t judge her, Spaniards son los mejores!” Interrupted Rachel again, making a fake Spanish accent.
“Anyway…” Gabriela said between her teeth and Rachel muttered a ‘sorry’ “We made a deal to help Aaron. Jack would convince him to start dating again and Iwould find the perfect date.” The girl talked, making exaggerated hand gestures “The thing is: that was two weeks ago. And since then, I had a lot of baby stuff to do so I totally forgot and the date is two hours from now and I have no one…”
“…And you want me to go on a date with him?” Rachel raised an eyebrow.
Sure, it wasn’t like she had a real boyfriend since she was… Sixteen, but still, she wasn’t anyone’s rebound. And it was a Saturday night, her day off. What if she had better plans? Rachel was a party girl; going out on fancy dates wasn’t really her thing.
