"Okay, let’s go over the world famous wishes of Lisa Morgan one more time.” My best friend Amy said taking a sip of her orange juice.
“For the 100th time Ams! They are not wishes! They are my goals for the future. It all has to work out just the way I planned. I won’t have it any other way” I tried to explain.
“Alright, I’m sorry. Goals not wishes! So first comes Shawn.”
Just the mention of his name makes my heart flutter. He has the most beautiful blue eyes I have ever seen. I have liked him since the beginning of high school. I didn’t know he feels the same way about me until recently. Shawn dated several girls throughout high school, but now I know he only wants me.
“1. Go to prom with Shawn and dance the night away in his arms” Amy said dreamily.
I signed not sure if I will be able to form words to speak. Shawn really leaves me speechless.
“2. Get into medical school, become a successful doctor, and do whatever it takes to bring Andrew’s eyesight back.” Amy continued.
Andrew, my poor little brother, he is only 12 years old but has been through too many struggles. He lost his vision in an accident when he was 5 years old. Following the incident, my father and mother took him to every doctor they possibly could, but nobody could help him. That is when I made it my responsibility to become a doctor and cure my little brother.
“Yes, it’s my most important goal Ams. I really need to make him better.” I blinked to stop the tears.
“You can do it Lisa, I believe in you. If your parents’ money couldn’t do it, your determination will.” Amy tried to encourage me. “And finally it’s Shawn again.
3. Marry Shawn and live happily ever after…. in a mansion. But why do you need another mansion when you already live in one?” She asked.
“You know how much I love my house Ams. It has everything I could possibly want. But this is my parents’ house. I want Shawn and I to have something just like my parents.” I explained.
“I understand and I hope everything works out just the way you want Lisa.”
“Thanks Ams. It’s getting late. I should call my driver to come pick me up.”
The call went straight to voicemail. So I decided to call my dad instead. He picked up on the first ring. “Hello sweetheart, what can daddy do for his baby girl today?” My dad asked.
“Daddy, Mark is not picking up my phone. I need him to come pick me up from Amy’s house.” I replied.
“Oh honey, Mark is with me. I need him for a while. Can’t you just spend the night at Amy’s place?”
“No dad, Andrew is alone at home. I need to be with him at night. It’s okay, I’ll just walk home.”
“But Lisa, it’s a long walk. I don’t want my little girl to go through the struggle of walking so much.”
“Dad it’s not that much walking. I’ll be fine. Don’t worry about me.”
“I will always worry about you Lisa. But if you must walk home, go ahead. Just take care of yourself okay?”
“Okay daddy! I love you.”
“I love you too sweetheart. Bye.”
I ended the call and turned to Amy. “Well it looks like I have no choice but to walk home. See you later Ams!” I said hugging her.
“Until next time girlfriend.” Lisa said as I walked out the door.
It will be at least a thirty minute walk to my house. I am glad it’s not completely dark outside yet. I passed by a small park and saw kids Andrew’s age playing with their friends. I wish my brother could be like all these kids. Why can’t he have a normal life? I’ll make sure he gets all the happiness he deserves in life.
As I kept walking, it started to get really dark. Then I became aware of my surroundings and realized that I have to pass by a dark alley very soon. I took a deep breath and continued walking. I signed and relaxed after I finally passed the alley. Just then a car pulled up right in front of me. Then it all happened so fast that I didn’t even have time to blink. All I saw was someone getting out of the car and hitting the back of my head with something really hard. The last thing I remember was being thrown into the car.
