I look at myself in the bathroom mirror one more time before turning to leave, only to crash into something hard. I look up and find Shawn looking down at me with his sparkling blue eyes.
“What are you doing in the girls’ bathroom, Shawn?” I asked shocked to find him here.
He puts his arm around me and smiles before answering. “I was wondering what was taking you so long. You know I want to spend the rest of the night dancing with you in my arms. It’s almost time for the last song. Let’s go!”
I think of all the times I wished for this day. It’s finally here. I am at my senior prom with Shawn. The best part is that he wants me just as much as I have always wanted him.
When I don’t follow him, he comes closer to me and touches my cheek with the back of his hand and asks, “You okay Lisa?”
“Yea I’m fine. I was just thinking of us.”
“What about us?”
“Just how happy I am to be with you.”
He doesn’t say anything. He just leans forward and kisses both my cheeks. Then his eyes move to my lips and I feel my heartbeat quicken. Our lips are about to touch when I feel myself being pulled away from Shawn. Then someone starts chocking me.I wake up gasping for air. When my breathing finally goes back to normal, I look around at the unfamiliar surroundings. I wonder where I am for a second, before it all comes back. I HAVE BEEN KIDNAPPED! But why? By who? It doesn’t matter. The only thing I need to do right now is find a way to get out of here. I look around again and see two doors.
I run to the first door and turn the knob but it’s locked from outside. I turn the knob of the second door and it opens. I walk in to find that it’s the bathroom. I try to find something useful in the bathroom, but it’s no use. It only has a sink, a toilet, and a small bathtub.
“No windows. Great!” I murmured.
I walk back into the room and notice that it’s empty other than the small bed in the middle of the room where I found myself when I woke up. There are no windows, so I have no idea if it’s day or night. Although the light is on, I can’t find the light switch anywhere.
Realizing I have no hope for escape any time soon, I go and sit down at the edge of the bed. Soon after I hear footsteps coming towards the room. I hear the sound of keys and the door handle moves. The door opens and He walks in.
“I see you are awake. Good morning sunshine!” He says with a cheeky smile showing his dimples.
I examine him from head to toe trying to figure out if I have ever seen him anywhere before and realize he is a complete stranger. He is definitely older than me. Maybe in college? He is tall and muscular with his broad shoulders. He has tan skin and his black hair falls down to his forehead. He has hazel eyes! I despise hazel eyes!
“Are you done staring at my beautiful face and body, sunshine?” He asked in a mocking tone.
Hearing him, I look up to meet his eyes. I instantly hate him! I stand up and walk closer to him. “Who are you? Where am I? Why am I here?” I throw all my questions at him at once.
“You like to ask a lot of questions. Don’t you, sunshine?”
“Answer my questions!” I exclaimed.
“Or what sunshine? What will you do? You do know that I kidnapped you right? And that I am the one who is in control here?” He asked stepping closer to me.
I take a step back almost terrified of him. No Lisa! You cannot be afraid of this hazel eyed demon. You need to be strong and show him that he doesn’t scare you. I look up at him as bravely as I can and say, “Look I don’t want to cause any trouble. Just tell me what you want. How much money do you want? Just tell me and I’ll make sure my parents will give it to you.”
A dark expression crosses his face. His eyes almost turn a darker shade of brown as he says, “You think I want money, sunshine? If money is all I wanted then I could have had it a long time ago.”
“Then what do you want?” I asked astonished. What else could he possibly want? He must know that my parents are rich. Or why else would he kidnap me?
“Isn’t it obvious?” he asked.
“No it’s not. I don’t understand. If you don’t want money, then what else could you possibly want?”
“I want you.”
“ME? What do you want from me?” I basically screamed at him.
“Everything.” He said with a knowing smile.
Before I knew what I was doing, I saw my hand going up to his face and slapping him right across the face.
He touched his cheek and looked at me weirdly. The hazel eyed demon definitely didn’t expect me to slap him. I felt accomplished, but not for too long.
Suddenly, he moved closer to me and grabbed my ponytail, pulling on it really hard. If looks could kill, I’d surely be dead! His eyes were darker, scarier than before. Before I could react, he slapped me so hard that I fell to the floor. It hurt so much. My parents had never hit me before. I didn’t know how it felt to be abused and I never wanted to find out. I felt the sudden urge to cry out loud. But I had to control myself. I cannot be weak in front of him. So I try to get up. As I get on my knees, he slaps my other cheek, throwing me right back to the floor. This time the pain is worse and I end up crying out loud.
He looks down at me and laughs bitterly. “This is what I want from you, sunshine. I want you to be punished! I want to see you screaming in pain. I want you to pay for all It did. Pay for all Its sins. Yes Lisa, you will pay for all the pain It caused me. You will pay for all the bad things It did in life!”
What is he talking about? Why would he want to hurt me? What have I ever done to him? Most importantly, who’s it? I need answers.
“Who’s ‘It’?”
“It… is the monster that ruined my life.”
“This ‘It’ must have a name.”
“I like to call it ‘It’ or ‘the monster’, that’s all you need to know.”
I sign realizing I am not getting anything else about this ‘It’ out of him at the moment. But what do I have to do with any of this?
“And where exactly do I fit in all this? What do I have to do with this ‘It’ ruining your life?” I asked trying to make sense of as far the most complicated situation of my life.
“You have everything to do with this, sunshine.” He replied showing off his dimples.
I want to rip those dimples right off his face! He irritates me so much. Why can’t he just give straight forward answers to my questions?
As if he could read my mind, he suddenly says, “And to answer your questions from before, I am Christopher, Christopher Collins. You are in Upstate New York, far away from your family, friends, and everyone else you know. Why are you here, sunshine? I am pretty sure you already know the answer to that one in detail.” With that he walks out of the room and locks the door.
I don’t know how long I sat on the floor and cried until my stomach started grumbling reminding me I haven’t ate anything since I left Amy’s house last night. There’s no hope for food in this room. How can he be so cruel to me? The hazel eyed demon could at least give me something to eat.
Again as if he could read my mind, the door opens and he walks in with a bowl in his hands. I instantly get up from the floor and run towards him. Without saying anything, he hands me the bowl. As I take it, I look down and realize its cereal. I walk back towards the bed and take a spoonful of cereal in my mouth before sitting down. Just as I am about to take the second spoon to my mouth I see a cockroach floating in the bowl along with the cereal. I scream and jump on the bed as the bowl falls out my hand and lands on the floor.
“Why would you do something like that? Do you know how much cockroaches scare me?” I scream at the hazel eyed demon with fear evident in my eyes.
He starts laughing at me as if I just acted out a scene from his favorite comedy movie. After what seems like an eternity, he finally stops laughing and starts walking towards the door. Right before closing the door behind him, he pokes his head inside the room, smiles his devilish smile and says, “You can’t be so afraid this fast, sunshine. It’s only the beginning.”
