Chapter 2 - The encounter

'My answer is... ' I begin. 'Yes.'

'Well, I won't take "no" as an answer anyways, but I'm glad you chose to live with me. The day is still early, and I have to work until maybe 6, so how about I drive you downtown and you could go shopping for a while and I'll pick you up then?' Miranda asked.

'Sure,' I agreed as we walked out of her office towards her car.

'Whoa, nice car you have there,' I said, looking at the white Bentley in front of us. 'Wait... if you're rich, then why did you have to work as a sheriff?' I asked. Rich women like her could just stay at home or go shopping all day, I didn't get the reason why she would want to work and not relax.

'You're not the first one to ask me that.' Miranda said, chuckling. 'Before I met my husband, John, my father was the head sheriff here, it was my dream to be like him, as cliché as it sounds, I want to protect the things that I love, which is this town, so even when I married John, who was very wealthy, I didn't want to lose my job as a sheriff.'

Wow, that's some devotion she has for her job and it made me respect her a little more.

After Miranda dropped me off downtown, I started to wonder around. There were bars, boutiques, supermarkets; you could literally find anything you want there. I went in a boutique and bought myself some skinny jeans and tops with Miranda's credit card. Wondering around, I suddenly heard a familiar sound nearby. I followed the voice and found myself at the opening of an alley. Little did I know, the voice belongs to Shawn, the young and buff officer.

'Miranda, why the hell would you offer that girl to live with you? You know she's top suspect!' Shawn shouted on his phone. I used my super hearing to listen to what Miranda has to say about me. 'Shawn, really? Do we have to do this again? Jessica Meyer is just an innocent girl whose life has been nothing but tragedy, have some sympathy, will you?' Miranda said calmly. 'I do feel sorry for her, but it's not a good idea,' Shawn argued. 'Seriously Shawn, just drop it, if you really want to fight about this then think, how could a skinny, fragile girl like Jessica would be able to kill four men, not to mention, those men were triple her size, and how could she possibly drained all their blood? Anyway, I'm not going to discuss this matter with you anymore, my decision is final, I have to pick Jessica up now, get some sleep, ok?' Miranda said curtly and hung up.

I walked closer and closer to where Shawn stood. 'Hello, Shawn,' I said. He looked up immediately and took a step back. 'Jessica, what are you doing here? Aren't you suppose to be waiting for Miranda?' he said, looking scared. I don't blame him; after all, my eyes are yellow right now. 'I was, but then I heard something interesting, so I decided to do something else,' I said, giving him a sadistic smile.

'What do you want, Jessica?' he asked as he pulled out his gun. I looked at him, scratch that, I looked through him with my yellow eyes and controlled his actions with my mind. I made him put his gun down. I saw his struggles and shocked with what was happening in front of him.

'What... are you?' He stammered. I stepped forward and held up his chin to look me in the eyes, 'When you wake up, you will only know me as the girl who lost her family, you will respect Miranda's decision and you will not bother me anymore.' I said and he nod, mesmerized with my eyes. 'Now sleep,' I ordered as his body slipped from my hands and his lifeless body lay on the ground.

'Goodbye Shawn,' I whispered and walked away to meet Miranda.

'Hi,' I said, getting on Miranda's car with my shopping bags. 'Jessica, you really are beautiful.' She said to me with loving eyes. 'There will be people in the world that care about you, I care about you Jess, you are just like a daughter to me, '

No one had ever told me this before, not even my real parents. My real parents were cold people, they never shown any sign of love they had towards me, so to hear a stranger I just met a few hours ago say this to me made my eyes well up with tears. Not fake tears, but real ones. 'Thank you,' I said quietly. The rest of ride to Miranda's house was quite long so I spaced out in my own thoughts.

A.D 1644

'Wh...what is happening to me?' I screamed. Pain and thirst filled my body as I tried to get myself out of the dark room. I heard the sound of footsteps and I opened my eyes to see a dark shadow walking across the room. 'Who are you?' I screamed again, trying to get away from the unknown shadow making it's way towards me. The figure then flew in front of me with its black wings and it was then when I finally saw him.

He was beautiful. With his dark hair and deep blue eyes, his lean and tall figure, calling him handsome would be an understatement. He was angelic. 'Hello stranger,' he said, knelling down in front of me. Instantly, my pain and thirst lessened and I knew that I fell in love with the man standing in front of me. 'What is happening?' I asked hoarsely.

'You don't need to be afraid, my dear. It is merely a process, you are going to be fine.' He assured. 'Is that something you say to people before they die? Are you an angel?' I asked, looking at his magnificent wings and inhuman features.

'No love, I am anything but an angel, and this is just the beginning,' He then extended his fangs and bit his wrists; I gasped as he held his bleeding wrist over my mouth.

'Drink,' he ordered. I did as I was told and found myself wanting more and more of his blood, it was then that I found out what he was and what I was going to be.

A vampire.
