Chapter 3 - Ian

'Jess, Jess,' Miranda called and tugged me softly. 'We're here.'

Looking at the house in front of us, 'Is this for real?' I asked out loud as I slam shut the door.

In front of me was not a house, it was a mansion, and probably the biggest mansion I have ever seen. It has a nicely cropped, beautiful garden and a water fountain in front of it. Everything about this place is beautiful and polished. Guess this is my life now, huh?

'It's beautiful, right? I was just as amazed the first time John brought me here and announced that this is our new home,' she said and gestured me to follow her into the house.

An old woman opened the door before we even arrived. 'Welcome back, Mrs. Sterling,' she said with a smile. 'Hello Greta, this is Jessica and she will be living with us from now on,' Mirada introduced. 'And this is Greta, our housekeeper,'

Wow, they even have a housekeeper, what kind of people are they? 'Hi,' I said politely. 'Greta, please take Jessica to her room, it's the one next to Ian,' she said and started walking away. 'Wait, there are others?' I asked, surprised.

'Well yes, but they are all adoptions. You see, I can't have babies,' Mirada said sadly. 'So I adopt. Including you, there are 4 of you all together, there's Cory and Samantha, they are twins and I've adopted them 15 years ago, when they were just 5. They are now 20, and they only come back at the weekends since they live in dormitory in UCLA for the weekdays. Then, there's Ian, he's 18, just a bit older than you. I found him on the street actually; he was so young and hungry, so I decided to take him in.' she said smiling.

'Oh my, look at the time, I've got to prepare dinner, Greta will show you your room and I'll tell her to call you down for dinner later,' Miranda said as she hurried off to the kitchen.

The walk upstairs was awkward, I didn't try to make conversation, and neither did she, so we were both silent. When I opened the door to my bedroom, I gasped.

The room was beautiful. With purple wallpaper and a queen-sized bed, I couldn't ask for anything better, the room was perfect. It even has a bathroom in it. 'Wow, this is perfect,' I gushed, never in my life had I lived in such a luxurious room. 'It is, Mrs. Sterling wishes for you all to have the best,' Greta said with a smile. 'Well, I'll be leaving now, if you have any questions, you can ask me and Ian, his room is right beside yours.'

After Greta left, I began walking around the room. I went in the bathroom and I saw a Jacuzzi, a freaking Jacuzzi! These people are sure rich. When I opened my wardrobe, I found that there were already some clothes inside; there were some casual dresses, nightgowns, t-shirts and jeans. Wow, Miranda sure prepared for everything. When I walked towards my dressing table, I found a notebook and a note.

Keep a diary, and someday it will keep you. -Mae West

I smiled, thinking it was Miranda who gave me the diary when I heard a knock on the door. 'Come in,' I said without hesitation. I was too busy looking at my new diary to look up at the person coming in.

'Hey there, stranger,' a familiar voice said. It was deep and sexy and it belongs to that someone who haunts me in my dreams every night. I whipped my head around to see the guy who broke my heart 200 years ago.

It was Jack, though with shorter hair but I would recognize that deep blue eyes, messy black hair and lopsided- smile anywhere.

'Hi, I could see that you're confused,' he said. 'I'm Ian, I live next door,' I didn't really listen to what he said, I was still staring at him, not quite believing my eyes that anyone could look as alike as Jack as he could. He was as tan as Jack, probably as tall as Jack and was definitely as fit as Jack. Everything about Ian resembles Jack. Everything. Even his smile.

Jack or Ian, whatever, looked uncomfortable by my staring. 'Uh... do I have something on my face?' he asked. I snapped out of it. 'I'm Jessica,' I said curtly and turned around to stare at my diary again. My heart was thumping fiercely as I turned around. That's so strange, ever since Jack died, I lost my heart, my humanity, but now, why the hell was it beating again?

'Oh, it talks!' Ian said, trying to make a joke. I didn't respond, pretending to be interested by my surroundings. 'So, uh, what brings you here?' he asked, trying to make conversation as he sat on my bed. 'It's none of your business,' I said, not looking at him directly, worried that I would soften up.

'What's with the attitude?' he asked. I guess I was too harsh, but can you blame me? A lot has happen today and the fact that I haven't talked unless necessary in these 200 years doesn't help. You would think a vampire as old as me would have a lot of connections. Sorry to disappoint but I don't do friends. Sure I have met a few vampires, but the only friend I had all these years was only Jack, but I guess I wasn't his only 'friend'.

I took a deep breathe, 'I'm sorry, a lot has happen today and you... you just look like someone I use to know,' I said apologetically. Now that I live with the guy, I guess I had to at least try to be friends with him and ignore his appearance.

'It's ok,' he said, 'but I could tell by your reaction that you don't like that person who look like me much, were you hurt by him? Was he like an ex- boyfriend or something?' he asked, edging closer and closer towards me. He was... too close. I wasn't able to think clearly with all that butterflies and electricity going through inside me.

This feeling wasn't anything I felt when I first met Jack. But I was close to death when I first saw Jack, and under those circumstances, I doubt anyone would be able to feel butterflies going through them. Meeting Ian, boy was it different. I felt like time had stopped when he leaned towards me, like those giddy feelings a high school girl would feel when she sees her crush.

But I wasn't a high school girl and I should have known better than you trust him. I bet he was like this with every girl.

'Your charms won't work on me,' I said, leaning forward, we were so close that our nose were almost touching, I smirked and pushed him back on the bed. Ian looked disappointed for one, just one second, and then it was that lop-sided smile again. 'So, do I?' he asked. 'Do you what?' I asked with a frown, not catching on to what he was trying to ask. 'Your ex, do I look like him?' he asked again.

'... Yea, you do,' I said quietly, Jack was a touchy subject and I didn't want to elaborate. Ian looked shock, 'What,' I asked, kind of annoyed because Jack was the subject in our very first conversation. 'Wow, I didn't think you would be so straight- forward.' He said.

'You know, I used to date a girl who looks like you,' he said after a while. 'Oh yea, what a coincidence, what's her name?' I asked, standing up to go over my closet.

'Her name was Margaret.'
