Part 4: Practicing Magic

Flora and John made their way back to the classroom. There wasn't a single moment of awkward silence between them and it was their first conversation together when they both knew who the other one was. Flora was feeling butterflies fluttering in her stomach and hoped that the hallway would never end so they could keep talking, but she couldn't help thinking, "what if John doesn't like me, and what if he hoped that the hallway would end so he could get away from me!"

"I've seen the fliers outside of the school and on the lockers, have you heard anything?" Flora asked knowing that she was who he was looking for.

"Well... Not exactly but I have had a lot of random people come up to me and try to convince me that they were her. I know they aren't," John said kind of embarrassed. "It wasn't even my idea to put the fliers out, but Alex and Nicholas surprised me when I came to school," Nicholas laughed.

"Well I hope you find her..." Flora commented.

"Well maybe-" John started before being interrupted by Mylie.

"Oh John!" Mylie said pulling on Johns arm.

"Mylie, what are you doing I'm talking to Flora," John said annoyed with Mylie.

"I wanted to talk to you about what happened at the ball... I was peer pressured into tripping that girl... I feel absolutely terrible about it." Mylie tried to sound convincing but no one bought it.

"I'm sorry Mylie," John responded. John turned back to Flora, "do you want to be my partner for our next magic assignment?" Flora felt her heart stop for a second. Mylie stared at Flora with a look so icy cold that it could freeze water.

"Yeah, I'd love to," Flora responded.

"Uh, whatever," Mylie said to Flora flipped her hair and walked off.

"Wow, haha" John laughed at Mylie.

"Yeah," Flora said laughing. They entered back into the classroom and Mr. Steedle was writing something on the board. They both sat back into their seats and got out their notebooks and listened and wrote their notes.

"Everyone's powers are special and no one has the same powers as someone else, now think about your powers. We can all move things, but one person cannot become invisible and also control the weather. At the ball we all had the theme of dressing at our powers specific to us. We all also received masks that would also match our powers. Partially because you don't want a mask that wouldn't match your dress or suite. Right?" The classroom laughed. John looked like he was in deep thought at what Mr. Steedle had just said. At the end of the class John met up with his friends, Alex and Nicholas,

"Hey guys, you know the theme of the Fall Ball was dress as your power and everyone has their own personal powers," John shared with his friends.

"And if you find a girl with the powers that match the dress than you will find the girl!" Alex joined in.

"We just need to make an announcement saying for every girl to write down their powers and their name!" Nicholas suggested.

"How about we not do that actually, I mean if she really wanted to go out with me she would have told me who she was," John told Alex and Nicholas. "I have to go, I'm being tutored by Flora during 2nd lunch."

"Wait, the girl who sits next to you and is friends with Marigold and Mariposa?" Alex asked.

"Yep, that's the one," John responded.

"Could she be the girl?" Nicholas asked.

"Mm, I don't know I mean I don't know, I guess we will find out." John wondered. John made his way to the courtyard where he was meeting Flora. John saw her sitting at the table looking through her notes and taking out her magic books.

"Hey there," John stated taking a seat.

"Hey," Flora responded. John stared at Flora while she talked about what they were going to go through.

"So I looked through your notes and I noticed that you take really good notes but you don't know how to create it outside of the books-" Flora started. "What, what is it, do I have something in my hair?!" Flora said worriedly pulling at her hair and touching it.

"Oh no, uh sorry," John responded.

"Ok, let's go to the magic center I got a room there so we can practice," Flora suggested. The two made their way to the magic center and walked to the front desk. The person at the front desk was checking her emails and looked up as John and Flora entered the front doors.

"Hi Flora." The woman said.

"Hey, Ms. Felicity. I have a room saved for us to practice our magic,"

"Oh yes I have it right here." Ms. Felicity stated holding out the keys and when flora tried to take them Ms. Felicity pulled them back, "And here are the rules, no trying to burst through the walls will your magic there are video cameras, no using your powers against eachother there are video cameras," Ms. Felicity went on and on about all the rules. "Ok and now here is your key."

"Ok thanks," John stated and Flora and him went to their room. The room was white and had a of course, video camera in the corner. The room had a set of cabinets which had all types of things that could be used to practice your magic. In the middle of the room there was a table and four chairs.

"Ok this is what you should do to start. At first we should probably start with using our magic that everyone has and then we can use our own special powers." Flora stated, "so you are going to move that chair back and forth towards the table and away from it," John held out his hand and flipped the chair over.

"Uh that always happens!" John said frustrated.

"Ok that's fine, this time just focus on the chair and try it again," Flora stated. John tried it again only focusing on the chair and it moved towards the table and away from it perfectly. John tried it a few more times and different things also. When they were finished with their tutoring session it was the end of the day and time to go home,

"Ok well, that was really good and I think we can start practicing your powers." Flora stated. They left the magic center and went to the front of the school where Alex, marigold, mariposa, and Nicholas were,

"Hey guys," John stated.

"Hey, we have to go," Alex responded.

"Ok bye," Mariposa stated. They all said good bye to eachother and they all headed their separate ways, mariposa, marigold, and Flora went one way and John, Alex, and Nicholas went the other way.

"Did you find out if she's the girl?" Alex asked John.

"No, I didn't see what type of magic she has, I need to tomorrow when I see her again," John stated.

"With all this time you're spending with her..." Alex stated.

"Um, Alex I literally just started talking to her, I don't know," John replied.

"She has to have a power that could match her dress let's think, water, invisibility, changing thinks to the color blue, um what else could be blue?" Nicholas said making a list of possible powers the mystery girl had. "Well we made an announcement while you and Flora were in the magic center, soon we will know who the girl is."

"Seriously, guys I didn't want you to do that people are going to think I'm really weird and the girl might not even come forward because how weird she would think I am." John stated.

"Well tomorrow you can see if Flora has powers that have anything to do with the color blue and Nicholas and I will see which girl from our grade has a power that matches the dress," Alex stated.
