Jun had lied about forever. Because forever doesn't end. And this, this was going to end.
The warmth in her body was dying with each step he took towards the horizon. Tall, thin shadows trailed behind him, stretching and sweeping over the concrete road.
A shadow swept over his figure. And in that a fleeting moment, she saw him for the first time: this boy who had become a man. They used to be the same height, but now Jun stood over a head taller. And those gentle, honest eyes she remembered were whet with time; now they held a colder edge.
But one thing had not changed. His heart was the same as the young boy she remembered, the boy who stretched out his hand and showed her the sunrise.
"I love you, May," he tilted his head back, lips curved in a mellow smile. Like always, those honest eyes betrayed his heartache.
"I'll come back someday. I promise you that." He looked down at the ground in front of him, tightening his grip on the small ticket in his palm. The time for departure was approaching, yet Jun stood frozen. Nothing about this future was certain, except that his love and his life, had to be left in the past.
All pretenses conceded to the love she felt rising in her chest. May rushed forward, squeezing him tight in her arms, letting the tears flow freely.
"You big liar. I'm never going to see you again..." She smiled ruefully into his shirt. What a truly cliché act of poetry, to have met at sunrise and parted at sunset. Now she could only have faith, faith that the sun will rise again.
"But May, I have to come back. 'Cause I've already decided." She looked up at him, and saw the mellow smile break into a sunny grin.
"Decided what?"
"That I'm going to marry you."
