Finally, he speaks.
"You hungry?" he asks, and I try to figure out his mood, to no avail. His tone is neutral.
"A little," I lie. I haven't ate since yesterday, so I feel like I'm starving. I don't tell Jack this because I don't want to seem like a beggar.
"Okay, me too. We're coming up on a little town here, so try there should be a place to eat." He smiles at me, and I relax. It's crazy how in only a little over an hour, I've started to align my moods with his. I shake my head to get the crazy, but true, thought out. Jack looks at me curiously.
"What are you thinking about?" he asks. Well, I should probably lie on this one.
"Oh, nothing," I say and smile at him. He smiles back, and I see his dimples again. Gosh, he's cute.
"Ah, a mystery woman. I like it," he says and winks at me. Is he flirting?! I don't even know what's going on here. I laugh nervously, but he smiles again to reassure me and then turns back to look at the road. When we get to the little town, he looks at me.
"Alright, take your pick, princess," he says, and I glare at the use of the word 'princess', but he just continues on. "Looks like we've got a little diner and...that's it. Choose carefully."
"Hmm...this is a toughie," I say, playing along. "I choose...'Carter's Diner.'"
"Wonderful choice. Would have chosen the same thing myself," he says, as we pull into the parking lot. I'm starting to notice that he has a slight southern twang. Not too easily detectable. You have to listen closely, but it's there. Combining that with his deep, smooth as caramel voice, and nobody can deny that he sounds quite fine.
We walk into the diner, and the waitress immediately looks at Jack. She ditches her customer to come greet us.
"Hello, how are you guys tonight? Is there anywhere special you'd like to be...er...sit tonight?" I notice she sticks her chest out a little as she says this, and I can't help but roll my eyes. Lord, help me.
"Nowhere in particular," Jack says politely, and looks at me. "Anywhere you want to sit?" he asks. I shrug.
"Anywhere is okay with me." I say honestly. The waitress looks a bit miffed that he didn't flirt back, and for some reason, this makes me happy.
"Well, then. Here's your booth." She directs us to the table and shakes her head as she walks away. Then, Jack and I are left to awkwardly look at each other.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Here's another chapter. I'm planning on getting a little more in depth on how Addison and Jack look in the next chapter because they can see other better in the light of the diner. Hope y'all are enjoying! :)
