-Chapter One-
-2012 December 21-
I stepped off the bus.I just stared at my house as the bus drove off.I got closer to the backyard fence,I heard the familiar squeking of the trampoline."MaiMai!" I yelled and jumped over the fence, not caring if my skirt flew up a little."Tsuki!" MaiMai yelled and jumped on the trampoline some more."How was school?" MaiMai asked."Well,I had a pop quiz in history,a mile run in P.E. and a test in math. How was your school day?" I asked her and dropped my backpack on the grass as I climbed onto the trampoline.
"Well,we didn't do alot." MaiMai twirled her hair.Maimai looked like my mother.MaiMai was Japenese but she was adopted from an orphange in Japan by my father. That's why we're ten years apart-I'm 16 and MaiMai is only 6."Do you like Kindergarden?" I asked.MaiMai nodded."Are you a freshman?" MaiMai fiddled with my hair.I laughed but shook my head."I'm a junior."
For a minute,we sat.We never told MaiMai she was adopted for fear she would cry.I twirled my auburn hair around my finger.I looked down at my uniform.A white button-down shirt,a black blazer,a black knee-high skirt and loafers. Not my sort of thing.I hopped off the trampoline."Tsuki, where are you going?" MaiMai asked."I've got homework," I lied.I picked up my backpack and ran inside the house."Tsuki, how was school?" Yoko-my mother-asked from the kitchen."Fine," I replied as I climbed up the stairs.
I stopped at my room and opened the door.My cat-Neko(which means 'cat' in Japenese)-was curled on my bed."Have you been a good kitty?" I asked and pet her.I smiled and looked at myself in the mirror.Time to get out of these clothes.I stripped down into nothing but my undergarments.I pulled on my favorite Tokyo sweatpants and a Hatsune Miku shirt-I love representing my home country.
I began to play "Chop Suey" by System of a Down on my Droid.Mom didn't appreciate my love for rock and metal. She always thought I'd be more into pop like Justin Beiber.Boy was she wrong.MaiMai on the other hand.Let me tell you-MaiMai LOVES pop.One Direction,Justin Beiber,Katy Perry etc.
I like pop but I think metal is just cooler.Except for Ed Sheeran. He's a really cute ginger from the UK.But anyways.....
I jammed out in my room to Paramore and Metallica."Tsuki!Turn it down!" mom yelled when she got to my room.I turned the music off."I am tired of having to tell my clients to please hold while I TELL MY DAUGHTER TO QUITE DOWN!!!" my mom yelled."God,why can't you just let me be a teenager?!" I screamed.Mom rolled her eyes."Listen,Tsuki.I have no problem with you being a teenager. But I think this music is making you violent.Aisho and I are pending wether we are moving back to Japan or not.So please, try to be less....ah...rebelious.That's all I ask."
I nodded and slumped on my bed as mom closed my door.I turned on my T.V. to a random reality show.A scream errupted in the house.I ran downstairs to see mom on her knees by the door. Two generals stood with their hats on their chests.No.Nonononono."Aisho!Is Aisho Hakaroni okay?" I screamed.A dark-skinned general shook his head."He was shot by his own friend. The friend thought it was an enemy. We are so sorry for your loss," he said.My dad was dead. The only man in my life was gone.
The only person who cared was never to be seen again.
