The Cure Among Us

Chapter 3

There was dead silence all around. You know like when everything in your house is still and nothing is making any kind of noise that is how it is right now. It's never like this usually the streets are running with cars back and forth, people walking from place to place having dinner or hearing an occasional honking of a car.

"Well well well...who do we have here?" A man comes from the right side of us after we started our way towards the man that thinks I'm important.

"Alexander wants her." As she points back to me. "He says she's important and wants me to bring her to him."

"Oh really." He looks at me and moves towards me,"So what's your name little girl?" He asks. I notice there is a scar running across his left eye. I'm going to call him scarface.

"Athena and I'm not a little girl. I'm 17 for your information." Who does this guy think he is? I mean seriously do I look like I'm 5 years old? "Ohh you've got attitude.." He rose his hand but before he could hit me Corrina grabbed his hand,"Do not hit her! You know what Alexander would do to you and me! He would kill me if she is all bruised up by the time she gets there!" Corrina exclaimed.

I didn't realize he was inches from hitting me. Then there was commotion and a bunch of people started running down the streets: the people eaters. "Let's go we need to keep moving!" Corrina said. So we ran and hid in a clothes shop but we weren't fast enough so they came heading straight in our direction.

Corrina pulled out a grenade and threw it out the front door as the glass clashed with the grenade."Get down!" I ducked and a big burst of glass and dust from the building came in a big cloud.

She then reached for her gun and started shooting and so did scarface. "We need to find a way out!" yelled scarface. Neither one of them could look and see so I got up and started running towards the back. I looked all around and finally found a back door. I could still here gun fire and those things screaming and trying to get in. I ran back, "I found a way out!" I screamed. "Its all the way in the back!" Corrina heard and throw another grenade,"Let's go!" She was running to the back and I followed after her. She tried opening it but it wouldn't open. "Dammit what are we going to do now!"

Then there was gun fire that we could here in the front of the store. We started our way up and they were shooting the rest of the eaters. "Well are we glad to see you guys." Scarface gave out a breath.

"Yeah well we aren't that happy to see you Max so don't get too soft." The guy that I called scarface has a normal name that's weird! I chuckled and tried to hide it.

Max looked over at me with fire in his eyes. "And this must be Athena." He jumps down from the top of the truck,"Jeffrey, nice to meet you." As I shook his hand,"Nice to meet you too." I said.

He turns back around and heads back to the truck and we follow suit after him. I climb in the middle between a much older man he looked to be in his 50's with white hair and shiny black eyes and Corrina got on the other side of me.

We drove until we came up to a huge barricade of cement wall.

There were soldiers up on top scouting the perimeter with very large guns.  The large doors open and the truck went through. To my amazement there were soldiers everywhere and tents step up. What is this place? Military camp? Lights were beaming down blinding me. We came to a stop and got out, in front of me stood the largest tent out of all of them. "This way." Corrina ordered.
