"We'll be together forever, okay? Pinkie Promise!"

...

"Hey, Winwin? You haven't been answering any of my calls or texts.. is something wrong?"

"Oh.. uh yeah, sorry. I'm just busy with the guys.."

Sicheng kept his gaze on his phone as his old friend Yuta ran up to him. Sure, they had been close when they were little and he was terrible at lying, but who would ever openly admit to ghosting someone? Ever since middle school, Sicheng had begun to feel awkward around his old friend. It was the little things that had finally sent him to the point of ghosting- the touching constantly, the staring, the possessiveness- he was done with it, so he pulled away.

Yuta, on the other hand, had no idea that Sicheng was uncomfortable around him. All that mattered was spending time with his love- holding him, touching him, breathing the same air as him. Yuta had known for years that he loved Sicheng. Nothing would come between them, they promised. It was them against everything.. until the boy began to ignore him.

"Well.. I have to go. Lucas is waiting for me.."

Sicheng murmured an excuse before running away from Yuta- and his hands that couldn't seem to stay away from him- towards a group of lanky guys. His friend group- one without Yuta- was made up of the best mix of men. There was the artistic one, Ten, the smart one, Kun, the idiots, Lucas and Hendery, the annoying one, Yangyang, and then Xiaojun. Greeting his friends with a simple smile and nod, Winwin was immediately pulled into a pair of warm arms, which caused his smile to grow a bit fake.

"Xuxi, I've told you the no touch policy before.."

Winwin kept his tone light as he wiggled free, moving the tallest boy's arms to wrap around Hendery. He received a chuckle and apology from Lucas as he moved back to his spot in the 'circle'. He could feel that same pair of eyes burning into his back, and he despised it. He'd moved on from that friendship a while ago, so why couldn't Yuta? He didn't have to turn to look and see who it was. It was Nakamoto. It was always Nakamoto.

...

Sicheng felt his phone buzz for what felt like the hundredth time since he entered the library. He and Kun had decided that, as the only smart people in the group, they should study together.

"Hey Kun, could you pause for a second? I don't want to miss anything, but I really need to take this call."

Kun nodded, giving Winwin the confirmation he needed to leave and return the call. As soon as he was out of his friend's sight, Winwin's expression turned annoyed. Why wouldn't he just get the hint? He picked up the call as his phone began to buzz once again.

"Yuta Nakamoto, stop calling me. I don't want to talk to you. I'm sick of my phone buzzing when I'm with my friends, so please, stop. Move on. No, better yet, grow up. We're not kids anymore. I'm not your friend, Nakamoto. So leave me alone, yeah?"

He hung up without waiting for a response, taking the final measure to block the boy's number. With a huff, he turned off his phone, not aware that Yuta had been calling him from only a few feet away. Winwin looked at himself in the mirror for a few moments, scrunching his nose at his own annoyed expression. He turned on the tap and splashed his face with water before exiting the bathroom, drying the water with his face. He felt a pair of eyes on him again, but.. it couldn't be Yuta. Right? He was at the library, Yuta didn't know where he was. It was probably just some kid watching him.

Yuta felt his heart shrivel at the boy's words during the call. Sicheng didn't want to be his friend? His Sicheng- the boy he'd loved and cared for since they were kids- no longer wanted him? That wasn't right. Of course he still wanted him. He just couldn't see it right now. Yuta knew Sicheng loved him. He knew Sicheng was his. He'd just have to.. make sure he knew as well. With a new fire roaring within him, he stared at the boy's retreating figure.

"Soon, you'll realize it. I just need you to remember that you love me too.."

...

"Sorry about that, Kun. I think it was just a spam call. Do you think we could wrap it up for the night? I'm a little tired."

Sicheng feigned a yawn as he sat back in his seat, giving his friend a pleading look. After snapping at his.. what was he at this point- a stalker?, he felt genuinely exhausted. As someone who hated conflict, creating it himself had quickly drained his energy. He slumped onto the table, his gaze still pleading his friend to give up on studying for the night. After only a few seconds, Kun gave in. He was part of the secret 'Winwin fan club', after all.

"I'll drive you home, yeah?"

Winwin's face brightened to a big smile as he sat up, grabbing his books. He was known for bumming rides from his friends, so it always made him happy when he didn't have to ask for it. Packing his books into his bag, he swung one strap over his shoulder before motioning for Kun to hurry up.
"Come on, Kun! Your car has the best seats- I mean, we need to get home."

...

Winwin entered his shared apartment, growing suspicious at the darkness in all the rooms. His roomate, Lucas, was never this... quiet. Usually he'd be in the living room with some of their friends, or he'd be working out as loud as he possibly could- which Sicheng believed was just to annoy him.

"Lucas? You dummy, why are you being so weird tonight?"

It was only when he was strangled that he realized what was happening. Well- strangle was a strong word. It was more that... he'd been contained by a pair of warm arms. He sighed and reached out to turn on the lights, revealing the assailant- his roommate. Every time Sicheng wiggled his way free, or flat out denied a hug from the overgrown baby, he'd be greeted by a forced hug at home.

"Xuxi, you're the worst."

Winwin murmured, only half joking as he pat the taller boy's back. After what felt like far too long but was only a few moments, he was released from Lucas' arms and was finally able to take a full breath. He gave his roommate a flick on the shoulder before heading to his room, a small smile gracing his lips. Sure, he hated being touched, but with his friends, the occasional high five or.. hug, in Xuxi's case, was nice. He'd already forgotten his exhaustion, and what had caused it in the first place.

But Yuta hadn't. It was likely that he'd never forget.
