Hydrangea Petals and Corny Finishes (Florist AU)

Mirio's POV

"Oh c'mon Mirio! I'm telling you, Iris Stems is the new best flower shop I know. I'm surprised you haven't been there before, new shop or not. It's flower arrangements are truly awesome ! You should have seen the wedding arrangements they did a month ago. I went there to get flowers for Yuyu and was not disappointed in the results," Nejire vocalized, crossing her arms. I've been looking for a flower arrangement for my mother. And Nejire hasn't stopped bugging me about going to this new flower shop that opened around 6 months ago.

"Okay-fine, I must see what's so amazing about this shop," I responded with a chuckle. I mean- I got to see what she means. It's gotta be good if Nejire sais it's good.

I walked into the flower shop, the small bell on the door chiming. I looked around to see rows of flower arrangements and plants on cabinets and tables to the side, a cash register on a counter in the back, ext.

There were only two other people in the shop. One working the cash register, and one working on a flower arrangement to the side. The person at the cash register had gravity-defying red hair that stood up, and wore a green apron. The person arranging flowers hair unruly indigo hair that was messily put in a hair-tie. A dirt stained green apron was loosely hung around his neck.

I didn't really know where to go- probably to the cash register.

I kinda just stood there considering what I should specifically ask for.

The red haired one noticed my presence at the doorway. "Hello sir! Welcome to Iris Stems flower shop, I'm Kirishima, what are you looking for today?" The red haired- Kirishima acnolaged and asked, motioning for me to come to the cash register.

"I'm looking for a flower arrangement for my mother," I responded. I think that's too vague. "Okay! Tamaki can you help him out please?" The person working on a different flower arrangement jumped when his name was said. "Yep, sure," I heard a small voice respond.

I made my way towards him. "Okay, so what are you looking for to be said through your flowers?" He said, rushing to finish the flower arrangment he was previously working on.

"Uh.. I guess I'm trying to portray the feelings of thanks (?) I guess? Sense Mother's Day is coming up I guess I'm trying to show appreciation to her," I declared. Yeah that's it. Appreciation. That's what I'm going for. He slowed to a stop and went deep into concentration for a couple seconds. A strand of hair fell into his face, which he rushed to put behind his ear.

"Okay, let's see..." He finally said, his eyes doing a sweep of the shop in a second. He suddenly started moving, grabbing the proper flowers for his idea left and right. My eyes lingered on the concentration in his indigo eyes as he gathered flowers.

Two minutes later he returned, flowers laying in his left arm. He let out a deep breath, before saying, "T-the flowers chosen were the pink rose, peach rose, and pink hydrangeas. The pink rose represents gratitude or appreciation. Pink hydrangeas represent heartfelt emotion, usually to a partner or family member, fitting the Mother's Day theme and idea. And the peach rose similarly represents gratitude, overall the flower shows thanks. Together forming the feelings you're going for- I think."

How he managed to get that all in one breath was impressive. "Is this okay- I could redo it (?)," He said a couple seconds later, looking at me confused.

I blinked, then blinked again. (Like normal people do)

Then I let out a small laugh,

His face quickly reddened, "I'm sorry- I'll redo the flower arrangement."

"No no- I really love it. It portrays what I'm trying to tell my mom well." I quickly voiced. A relieved, soft smile fell onto his lips. I felt my ears heat up. Why did my ears do that? "Okay, I'll wrap these flowers and then Kirishima can ring you up." Tamaki stated, looking down at the flowers, then starting to walk away.

"Uh- how did you know what the flowers mean? Do you learn it in college botany classes or are you self taught?" I quickly asked.

He quickly came to a stop and turned around. His eyes brightened as he began talking. "No actually, I've been studying flowers since I was little with my parents. And when I was younger I liked figuring out what the flowers I saw in shops and gardens mean't, not just what they looked like. It was probably the most fun part of studying botany," he said with a small laugh. "I-I don't know what they all mean- just most in the shop really,"

"That's really cool! I wish I had that kind of love for my career," I said with a chuckle. "Nah not really, it's not that cool.. It's really just a hobby that ended up as a career. What's your job?" Tamaki asked, slightly leaning against the table. He re-adjusted the flowers in his arm to make sure they don't fall out of his arm.

"Oh, I'm a sales advisor." I quickly responded, shaking my head. "It's a good job, it might be simple but it's a really good job to have." Tamaki said, nodding, his eyebrows scrunched forward in confidence (?). His eyes widened as if he realized something. His face reddened before he said. "Oh- I'm so sorry, here I'll get back to wrapping the flowers and then Kirishima can get the flowers rung up."

I walked to the cash register again, Kirishima held a weird smile on his face as his gaze flickered from me to Tamaki (who was wrapping the bouquet on the other side of the shop) continuously. His palm held his head.

A couple minutes later, Tamaki quickly walked back up to the cash register. "Okay I'm sorry for the wait, here you go. Have a nice day," he said, his eyes meeting mine for a moment, before walking away.

Kirishima's weird smile grew as his gaze flickered from Tamaki to me once more before ringing in the bouquet. "Okay that will be $37 please," Kirishima stated.

I spared one last glance to the flower shop as I walked towards the door with a bouquet in arms. Tamaki gave me one more small wave from the place he was standing; working on his previous arrangement. I waved back with a bright smile as I walked out the door.

A/N I love florist AUs- I had to do a one shot of one ! This was probably my favorite one shot the write so far. Sorry I don't update often- I'll try to update more often,
